Wet Matress?

Good Morning! Just had a quick question for anybody who feels like responding. My 3.5 yo is still wears pull-ups to bed on a regular basis, however, I do allow her to choose whether it's panties or pull-ups at night. We have been pretty successfull when she chooses panties, up until last night. She had an accident and it soaked all the way through to the matress. I thought I had the waterproof pad on, but I guess I didn't... oh well. Anyhow, does anybody know how to clean up the matress so it doesn't start to smell?

I would spray with vinegar, then put baking soda on it, let dry and vacuum up. Once the vinegar dries it doesn't smell and it takes the smell with it.

When I had to deal with this from my daughter in the past, I used soap and water. I used a large amount of soap and scrubbed really good. Then you can flip the mattress over & use the other side.

We got dog pee out of our mattress with the natures miracle and then steam cleaning it with tide in the water.
We have not noticed any odor at all.

Use 'Nature's Miracle" which can be found at the pet stores. Works wonders!

I agree with the vinegar and water, also try to soak up as much with pressure from a towel. If you can, put the mattress in the direct sun to dry. Sun seems to help getting smells out (maybe it's the heat?) Take care!

Hi A.-
Natures Miracle. It's not just for pets. Seriously, it is a natural enzyme that breaks down urine, etc. My suggestion is to spray it down, soak up what you can with paper or regular towels (until you see the yellow go away), spritz it again (actually, really soak it in) and then prop the mattress up with a fan on it to dry it. The enzymes in that stuff really is amazing!

One of my co-workers says that Urine-Off works wonders as well. It's the same basic principal, and they both run $10-$15 for a spray bottle, and you can get it cheaper at WINCO, and you can get a gallon of NM at Petco for $25-$30. It's totally worth it. I use it to clean everything from human to animal pee, basic spills, and more.

Remember- not just for pets!Good luck!

Hi A.,
Believe it or not, use vinegar to clean out the urine. Good luck. You can also just purchase a new mattress from Target or Wal-Mart that is waterproof for under $100.00.

Hi. 2 of my 4 kids went through that stage. I used a product I found in a pet store (or the pet dept. of a drug store or market) that removes the smell of urine. Pets, kids, urine is urine. Good luck!

I have a similar problem. What I did was sprayed it with carpet/uphostery cleaner, and wipe it with water for few time. I am lucky that we get good morning sun in my daughter's room, so I let it sit under the sun for hours. So far I have not smell anything yet......

Straight baking soda with no vinegar or other wet product will soak up a lot of the moisture, then you can brush it off. Vinegar with it will make it fizz. I wouldn't bleach it because the bleach will discolor the mattress for one, but also because urine is sterile when it comes out, so bleach is a little harsh for the job. Lugging it out to the sun is an idea I had heard of many times, too.

That is so funny, you ask this. I just asked this question a few weeks ago. What I learned was that nothing really gets it out, except for time. I used this product made for animal urine called, Natures Miracle. But since a mattress is so thick, it doesn't have the full affect. And the instructions state to let the area dry for 2 weeks. I dont' know about you, but I'm not about to have my daughter in bed with me for 2 weeks! So........ I used the product, and threw the mattress in the backyard for a whole day, to air out the smell. And the smell is pretty much gone. But there are days where I get a smell of it.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Febreeze. It's a great product and can chase away almost any bad odors. I learned about this product from a trucker, and of course they live in tight quarters (the sleeper} and work in the same place. I've even used it on cat pee...and we all know how bad that stinks.
