Hi mommys!!
My 4 month old has this wet cough when she does cough. And I can hear the gurgling in the back of her nose sometimes. I took her to the doctor and she told me it could be the starting of a cold or a little acid reflux coming up. Her lungs and breathing where fine. ears and nose fine. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this and what you did. She does not have any congestion in her nose and is not coughing on a regular basis. Its just when she does cough its wet and doesn't sound good. Its only been a couple of days and I put a humidifier in her room last night along with proping her mattress up and putting baby vicks on her clothes. Is there anything elese I can do for her? If you have experienced this what was it? And how long did it take to go away?

What can I do next?

My son had a similar problem when he was the same age, and every time I would ask the doctor he would tell me things like you were saying. It never went away. When he was 2 or so he was sick all the time. Any and every cold, he got and it was all winter. I took him to a chiropractor (recommended not just picked out of a phone book or insurance book). He did knesiology and told me that it was asthma. He gave me a natural supplement for him to take and he took it for almost 2 years before he completely got better. Hope this helps.

Hi E.,
I have worked w/ quite a few babies with reflux issues. If she is not congested and doesn't have any other cold symtoms, I would ask the doctor for a trial of reflux meds, that is very possible and can cause further issues if untreated. If the meds make no difference after a couple of weeks they haven't hurt her at all...really no side effects.

Could be excess saliva from teething. My daughter gets alot of fluid in her throat when she is teething and it sounds like a loose cough.

Are you the same E. that posted about a change in formula? If so this may be your answer to whether your child is allergic or not. The wet cough may be mucous or phlegm that is being caused by the new formula. I would get rid of the humidifier in her room if she is not showing signs of being stuffed up in her nose.

Sometimes it just has to run its course and it sounds like you're doing all that can be done for her age. If it gets worse though I'd bring her back. My daughter (who is now 4) gets bronchitis alot and it often leads to pneumonia. If it's a cold...it should go away in 5-7 days. If it's not better by then I'd bring her back. Poor baby...I hope she gets well soon!
