I have 3 children and usually find their birthday themes using Oriental Trading. They actually have a really cute Cowboy theme. If you go to orientaltrading.com and type in the theme you are looking for, it will bring up anything pertaining to it. It's pretty cheap and comes in the mal quick too. Good luck!

If you are looking for party ideas here is one for you. check out www.morningstarranch.org I am part of this ministry It is a ranch that uses the ranch environment to teach bibilcal principles thru the use of animals .We do birthday parties and can bring a horse and some small petting zoo animals to your place or you can come out to the ranch.WE have a big peting zoo we do lead arounds trail rides we have a wagon pulled by a big tractor at the ranch we take rides into a pasture where there are 50 some horeses roaming around. we could really add a lot to a cowboy party theme. Hi Jackie-

We did a cowboy theme for our son's 4th birthday. I don't know how many kids will be at your party but we had cowboy hats and bandanas for each child that were pretty cheap from Oriental Trading Co. To serve food you can use small metal pails. We also bought an inexpensive game of horseshoes for the kids to play in the yard.

You can do BBQ for food. When guest arrive you can have them sign a cowboy hat with a different color permanent markers...for a keep sake.

Sorry, I don't have any ideas, but your marshmallow idea worried me - marshmallows are a choking hazard to kids under 3 years old (same with popcorn). A 1-yr old may be okay to have the mini ones, but it might be best to avoid marshmallows all together.

Since we are in Texas, it is pretty easy to find cookie cutters in the shape of boots, cowboy hat... You can serve cookies in western shapes then. Also a thing we did at my 2 year olds, but might work for your 1 year old, is they make pinata's with pull-strings rather than you having to hit it. There is one "magic" string that will open a flap on the bottom of the pinata and the rest just detach. If you want there is a birthday party website that has pretty good prices that sell lots of different items including the pull-string pinatas. It is www.celebrateexpress.com.

I don't know how much you are wanting to spend, but I have a Hershey's smore maker that is perfect for kids. It would make a great activity for them to enjoy. You might be able to find it at Target, otherwise this website might help you too. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art27102.asp

As someone else stated, this may be your son's birthday, but it is really for the adults. He will probably not remember this party, so plan what you think your guest would enjoy. Knowing most one year olds, he will probably get cranky and sleepy and be ready for a nap about the time the party gets going so keep this in mind. I recently went to my great-grandson's first birthday party and sure enough, that is what happened. My granddaugher had chili dogs, you put your own together so you can make it like you like it. BBQ is always good or think about what his favorite food is and serve that. If you have children coming that are a little older than he is, play games according to their age as your son may not be ready to play games. The bandana idea for the goody bags sounds good, but remember some children are not given candy and some do not chew gum just yet. Talk to some of the Moms that will be in attendance and get some ideas from them.

Take lots of pictures so when he gets older you can talk to him about the first birthday party.

Hi, You should get hay! It's fairly cheap and it makes good seating. Also, I don't know if they deliver but if you have older kids coming to the party, you could rent this red barn bouncer...http://www.all-starmoonwalks.com/ASrentals.html. I have rented this before and it is too cute. One idea I remember when planning my daughter's farm theme party was wrapping the favors in red bandanas and putting them in a tree so the kids could pick "apples". I had my sons bday at Fiest Farm it was wonderful. They have petting farm, hayrides, pony ride, pinta area, etc. I did the goodie bags out of big hankies and tied them with rope. I had cowbay hate for the children. A tractor pinta. All the goodies where farm themed. My son wore overalls! The cake was a tractor. It was cute!

My 2 cents... And I sure do feel like a party pooper... But don't be surprised if your birthday boy gets overwhelmed at their 1st party... Like really overwhelmed: crying, scared, clingy. I love choosing party themes, finding decor and activities to go with it, however keep in mind that you are really doing it for yourself, your guests and invited children over age 4. For a 1 yr. old, everything still looks tasty and undoubtedly your son will want to put everything in his mouth... The dyed hats and clothing, tin foil stars, the spray painted or magic marker colored accessories. I personally would avoid any petting zoo situation or pony ride ideas until all the children (the invited kids and the birthday child) are old enough to no longer want to suck on their hands and whatnot--because small children can get really ill when put in those situations (http://www.thechildrenshospital.org/wellness/info/news/47....

You can do a bottle toss with soda bottles and bean bags. If there are only a small number of kids, maybe give out stick horses for them to 'ride around'. Square dance music is fun dancing for small kids.

You can see if you or any of your friends or family members have any old cowboy boots and spray paint them the color of the theme of your party and use them for table decorations or whatever decorations you need. It turns out to be really cute.

How about "pin the tail on the bronco" and giving the kids bandanas for favors. I'm assuming you're having some kids older than your baby. Have fun and don't go too far overboard with a party he won't remember. Save the big theme events for when he's older and will love them.

Everyone came dressed in western attire-(we live in Texas)

I recently had a western baby shower and we decorated the tables with checkered table clothes, small bales of hay from the craft store, mason jar with fresh wild yellow flowers and a bandanna. We served drinks out of metal buckets on the tables too.

Hi, something you can also use is bandanas to decorate the tables, use as goody bags, etc. tie with rope. Maybe toy harmonicas. A cowboy outfit for him (chaps and all) would really be cute. My son had a horse pinata when he turned 3 and he loved it so much he didn't want anyone to break it so we had to take it down and keep it for about a month. how about stars foil covered or spay painted (probly easier) as long as silver that say Sherrif go to wal -mart or fabric store and get the bandana matieral and make small triangle bandanas for them saving material,,there is also a catalog you might be able to look at over the internet ,but if not can order it it is full of party stuff i just flipped through mine it does have cowboy things ok it's orientaltrading.com so hope some of this helps you

I have a cowboy as well. I made the goodie bags with bandanas from Hobby Lobby($.59 ea) and filled with candy & put in a platic cap gun from the dollar store. The kids loved it (although I did this when my son was 3, the caps may be too loud for 1 yr old). Card & Party Shop had a great table cloth with cowboy & cardboard cut out of boots. Hope it helps
