Well Water and Cleaning Bottles/pump Parts

I thought I read somewhere that you don't really need to sterilize bottles/pump parts more than once a week...UNLESS you have well water. Then you should sterilize daily.

Now, our well water is not that bad (it does not have a bad odor or yellow color to it) and we do have a water softner. Now, do I drink from the tap, no (just because of the taste), but does that mean the bottles are not as steril/clean as if we cleaned them with city water?

Anyone heard of this?

What can I do next?

Well, city water has a bit of chlorine in it which probably has some germ-killing power. I've never heard about the city v. well-water thing for sterilizing.

I sterilized everything every night using the Avent microwave sterilizer, a wonderful invention. (Before that, I boiled nipples and pump parts - which led to at least one pan full of melted nipples. Never trust a woman who is sleep deprived and hormonal to also keep track of hot stuff on the stove.)

Congratulations on your new baby!

Well, we had a well when our son was born and I sterilized the bottles, nipples and pacifiers. I was soooo grateful when we moved to a house with city-water!

I guess if you don't drink it for the taste, probably best to sterilize...in my opinion.

I hope that you have more than one or two bottles with nipples etc. If not, my suggestion would be to get some more. Sterylize in advance that way you just have to do it once at night and be done with it for the next day.

Sterilize EVERY time, not just daily.
