A 15 yr. old or someone posing as a 15 yr. old left a question on this site whining about her mother. I responded publicly saying this was not an appropriate use of this site and she should talk to a counselor at school. A couple of hours later, she sent me a personal message and used my first name in it. It was creepy. I don't think I have my first name available anywhere on this site. When I went back to look at her question, it had been deleted. I am sure many people (including myself) had reported it as inappropriate.
She wrote "-------, please help me." and then proceeded to whine about her mother again. How did she get my first name? Why would she be doing this? Have I somehow made my account or email address vulnerable?
Thanks. I guess I'll fix that. I didn't realize my name was public. I didn't really want it public either. Glad it wasn't just me who received that weird message.
There is a difference between a "user name" and a "screen name."
So check your profile and adjust it as you wish.

Or per THIS site, there is when you sign up, a "Online Nickname" fill in the blank, and a "First Name" and "Last Name" fill in the blank section.
And if you put your name, in either one, then your name will be evident.
Yep... everyone is right. We can see "your real name". You need to change your "name" in your profile, inlcuding your screen name to all reflect Love Being Mommy
If you want to change that, go into your account "EDIT PROFILE" and edit your first and last name. I think mine is JessTX and my last name is the star symbol.
When they went to send you a PM it says right across the top what your name is. I can see yours.
It sounds like that person sent a lot of people PM's. Hopefully they wont come back.
I got the same private message too, but do not recall the poster using my name. Still, it was awkward getting a private message from someone I did not send a message to. I think this person somehow hacked into Mamapedia and sent a bunch of people the same message. I found the person who sent the message very childish and whiny, not at all like most of the posts here that genuinely ask for information. I decided just to ignore it. You could try to contact Mamapedia, perhaps by going through the Help menu top right? Feel free to mention my account name (since Mamapedia should be able to find our real info) and let them know I also got that personal message. I did respond to a dad who was asking about the weird posting, so there were others who got that whiny message from a teen (certainly sounded like an immature person). Cheers.

there are some creepy people out there and on this site....you will find them everywhere. I've had one person from here on my back - I just ignore her - figure she's a sad, small person. She's finally stopped PMing me! YAY!!! :)
This troll that you speak of appears to have PM'ed MANY people on here begging for assistance...stating he/she/it (as started out as a girl, then a boy, etc.) he/she/it will continue to post the question until it does not get pulled. Whatever.
