Weird Nesting--Question for Fun

I am taking a brief break from dishes because I realized I was about to empty my cupboard full of plastic storage and sort and clean it. I sent my husband out in the snow at 8:30 last night to buy newborn diapers (I am not due for another 6 weeks), and am determined to get my hospital bag packed this week. With my first pregnancy, I was obsessive about landscaping my tiny rental flower beds (they were beautiful, unlike the inside of our apartment.) I cannot even wrap my brain around being pregnant for more than 3 or 4 more weeks since I was spoiled to have my second child come at 37 weeks. Right now, aside from the plastic storage, I have organized the kids' picture books (which hasn't been done in at least a year--they are on the shelves, just not tidy). I think I am partially determined to be more ready for this child because we didn't even have diapers ready with our second (since he was a bit early). The rest of my house is still a nightmare of course. It always surprises me the particular things that one just can't stand when one is pregnant. =)

What are (or were) some of your weirder nesting obsessions? Were they different with each pregnancy? Thanks for sharing!

So What Happened?

Thanks so far! I fear my car might be next. I drove the van to church today (my husband usually has it) and realize it is disgusting, so I'm afraid of what I might find myself doing in there... I do not even want to look for any length of time at my tea cupboard. I used to keep it perfect, down to alphabetizing my teas (I usually have between 20 and 30 different teas at a time, so it helps), but right now it is a mess. I also really, really want to sort my husband's t-shirts. He has more sleep and daytime t-shirts than I can fit in his drawers, but that will be a rather big project, I'm sure. :)

The last few weeks of my pregnancy were spent cooking (see login name). I made (of all things) caseroles to freeze. I don't even remember where I got the recipes but I cooked and froze so many of them that after the baby was born I swear I didn't have to cook anything for 3 full months. I was like a cooking machine. It did make things a little easier for me after the baby was born. I can honestly say I don't think I've made a caserole since then - it's 11 years later now. lol.

I am about 34 weeks pregnant with number 3 and the desire to clean and cook as much as possible beforehand is much stronger than ever before. I wonder if it because I am afraid with three I will never have time to do anything except care for children ever again. I have been obsessed with cleaning baseboards, doors and door frames and keeping all of the dustbunnies (not easy with pets) out from under every bed, couch, nook and cranny etc. I have been cleaning out closets and doing all these things that are physically really hard for me to do in all my hugeness. Nesting really is real. Funny, isn't it?

With my first, I had to always make sure the vaccum was clean. It was the weirdest thing, I felt like after everytime I vaccumed (which was basically everyday) I had to not just dump out the collection part but I washed it too and then I would wash all the fliters before putting it all back together again. I always felt like the dirty vaccum was going to get everything dirty.

With #2, I'm still 9 weeks from being due and I feel like I can't get anything clean. I am constantly bumping into stuff and I can't wait to get rid of the baby swing, bouncer, etc (I babysit now so that is why everything is out already) I have been obsessed with keeping the gas tank full on both cars this time and fill up about every 3 days, even though I hardly drive anywhere. I think that is because with DD #1 we had to stop to get gas on the way to the hospital (I was being induced so I wasn't in active labor thank God)

Lol I'm due with my 3rd child in 4 weeks and I'm like a crazy person trying to get organized! This weekend I MADE my husband install the infant carseat, put together the baby swing and bouncy chair, and I too am planning to have my birthing center bag packed before I go to bed tonight haha. I am currently doing a load of newborn laundry. The silly thing is both of my boys were late, so I'm probably not seeing this baby for AT LEAST another month, but who knows. Better safe than sorry in terms of preparation right? It is funny how you go into nesting mode though. Everywhere I look I feel like there is clutter and disorganization that just needs to be dealt with ASAP....even though I have 4 weeks left :)

Congrats on your baby!

I had to organize the socks in the house. That was my weird thing that I can remember. Once everything was done as for the baby's room prepped, bag packed, clothes picked out....I went through all of our socks. Sorted and threw out the ones I didn't want to keep. I don't know why...but that's what I did.

Me and my ex were in an okay-sized 2 bed apt (which is amazing for yuma arizona where most are tiny) and I just got out of the Marine Corps, so guess what I had... time time time lol. I cleaned the house top to bottom, white glove inspection clean. I cleaned the outdoor storage closet which filled the big living room inside and then reboxed everything and put it back (my ex helped with that one).
I bought a patio set for the outdoor balcony and the balcony had to look perfect, even though the baby would never crawl or anything out there because it had those metal rods that I'm sure a baby could fit through. Bought her nursery room stuff when I was like 6 months pregnant, did her room all set up (except paint b/c they wouldn't let us). I mean, the whole apt looked like a picture out of a magazine haha because I refused to let anything be out of place for my daughter. I had like OCD when I was pregnant, 5 months and on.

So odd. and I know I prbly drove my ex crazy with pestering him to clean out the litter box a million times a week. And a couple hours before my scheduled induced labor, I just HAD to go grocery shopping and buy crazy amounts of food and those stouffer skillets and had bought four boxes of diapers a month before.

Funny how ya behave when your pregnant. I just took everything I would normally do to the extreme.

@mum4ever: Wow, your inlaws were kind of mean knowing you had a baby coming lol

@ K.R. I think that's why I did what I did, I felt everything was cluttered even though it was probably just fine

Every thing in the house was scrubbed down, washed, even curtains, rugs, every fabric surface was baking soda'd, every article of clothing clean, folded, ironed and boxes of clutter donated to goodwill... I also completely cleaned the cars, taking them to have the carpets shampooed and everything.

I felt ready for Baby #1 as I found an awesome deal on an entire set of a beautiful baby furniture. My co workers held a lovely baby showers...I was good to go until my in-laws came and ate me out of house and home and left for the airport and left me with an empty freezer that I had stocked with frozen meals. I was pissed....

Baby #2 - the night of birth I completely reorganized my tea cabinet, trying to make just 2 cups of tea for a friend and me. I could not walk away from it without it being perfect.

Baby #3 - I was 42 yrs. old and tired....too tired to do much else than keep up with the others. So not much nesting there.

Closets and drawers... all of them! I pulled everything out and folded and re-hung by size, color, and use. They don't look like that now, but California Closets had nothing on me the month before our son was born!

Closets...Closets have to be organized when I am pregnant. The entire house can be a total disaster area, but the closets will be nice and tidy and I will have a freaking heart attack if someone just randomly throws something in there that doesn't belong.

I'll also start the stupidest projects. Like cleaning the grout with a toothbrush. Yeah, like that is important when I have 95 loads of laundry to do.

The fridge, cabinets, and closets all had to be organized and cleaned while pregnant with both my children. Oh and drawers had to be cleaned out/organized and windows and appliances had to be spotless. I wonder why we nest?? It's such a strange thing to go through. I remember lying awake at night, thinking about what to clean for the next day at 9 months pregnant. Good luck with #3!
