Read all the labels for chemicals. Processed foods are full of them even though they try to make it sound healthy...it's usually not.
Hi - I posted a question last week about advice on losing 15lbs or so. Today, I started eating healthy. I've eaten alot, I'm not starving myself. Breakfast = Oatmeal Squares cereal with skim milk (I have drank skim milk for years) This cereal was high in fiber & protein. Snack = banana & peanut butter. I also had a 100 calorie pack of sun chips. Lunch = I had this box of vegetables from Green Giant called Healthy Heart or something (I just threw the box away). I don't feel hungry. I feel satisfied. But I have a killer headache! Like the kind of headache I get if I wait too long to eat, but like I said I've eaten alot and not hungry. Do you think that's my body going through withdrawals of junk or something? lol
Thanks for all the advice:) I know I am still consuming too much processed, sugary food. That's the problem. I don't "know how" to eat healthy, quick, tasty food. I am trying though! LOL

Great job!!!
Sounds like you are back on track...the headache could be no enough water or caffeine withdrawl what did you drink? Last thing I would suggest is even though you at veggies (super job) you still need protein. Piece of bake chicken or you can fry it on butter spray (walmart brand is the best because it does not have silicone, yes I said silicone in it) Other then that you should notice a HUGE difference in the way you feel! And look. Have a super day!
You are exactly correct. It is called detox- all the junk chemicals can now start to leave your body- and it causes headaches.
Drink water- lots, it helps with the weight and with the detox- the best formula I have seen for water is- take your body weight in pounds and divide in half- whatever that number is- drink that many ounces of water a day- losing weight you may drink more- but not less.
And if you eat 1/2 your diet raw- salad, apples, carrots this weight loss will go much faster for you- there are things called enzymes in raw food, and they help digest food, thus making it easier on you body, and that will help with the headaches as well.
Keep up the good work!
best, k
I would agree, your body probably needs to adjust to a new way of eating. Especially if you tended to consume alot of sugar or caffeine. Some people feel good right away when they start eating better, but some feel worse before they feel better. I know this is just a half day's worth of eating that you posted, but I would suggest adding protein to your lunch, protein really helps me to get through the day. I actually try to balance all of my meals as well as I can. Be sure to drink enough water, too. You may have to suffer for a little while with the headaches and you may feel more tired than usual for awhile, but it will be worth it because I guarantee you will start feeling better!
Don't forget the water! Also you may need a little more protein!
Your body won't have withdrawals of junk food, but if you've suddenly made a drastic change to the amount of carbs you're ingesting, you can begin to feel nausea, etc. It's common among people who immediately restrict foods for extreme diets such as Adkins without weaning yourself off of your normal foods more slowly.
I think you're doing a great job. My guess is that it's unrelated to your diet - the breakfast had a lot of carbs as well as the banana for a snack/sun chips. My guess is it's more climate related/allergies than food consumption.
Good luck hitting your goal.
Maybe too much salt? PB has a lot of sodium, as do Sun Chips - the veggies shouldn't have (if they're calling themselves "Healthy Heart"), but if you added salt, maybe it was just too much in the end. Drink lots of water anyway, certainly substituting water for any soda or sweet T, and anytime you THINK of it, drink lots of water! If you're cutting out (or at least down) heavy sauces, gravies, creamy things, etc., you may be substituting with lots of salt for the flavor you're after, so just drink, drink, drink...
Headache may not have anything to do with what you're eating either - maybe just the barometric pressure changing (thank you, mid-afternoon storms). Hope you feel better -
Yes with drawls from the junkfood. Also were you a regular coffee, tea or soda drinker? When I quit for a few days after having it regularly, I get an awful headache, the worst I ever get is when I stop the caffiene.
If you've cut out caffeinated sodas or coffee that you used to drink, that could be it. Good for you for getting on a health kick! Take some Tylenol for the headache or try to reduce your caffeine slowly rather than all at once. I am a one Coke a day girl, and I find that if I miss it, I will still sometimes get a headache. Caffeine withdrawl headaches are nasty. Good luck!
Absolutely, ESPECIALLY if you gave up caffeine. But don't give up, it will pass. Good Luck.
Drink water, and lots of it! I get dehydration headaches, bad, that are similar to the not eating headaches.
I don't think it's "withdrawal" but it may be a change in your blood sugar. What kind of changes have you made in beverages? Could it be from a lack of caffine?
Keep eating healthy and in a few days you'll feel great. Remember to drink lots and lots of water.
Hi L.,
Yes, that's exactly what's going on. Anytime you completely stop or severely reduce: processed foods, sugar imitations, and caffeine, you will go through a withdrawl. I the end, it's a good thing, but you do need to be careful while you go through this process. If you were taking in high amounts of any of the things I mentioned above, you are better off slowly reducing them instead of going "cold turkey". And don't forget to drink lots of extra water to help you get rid of all the toxins.
Hope this helps.
L.
I think you pegged the problem. In a few days you should get past this. Keep protein in every snack and meal. Try to get 20-30 grams of fiber in each day. 1/2 should be soluble fiber. Exercise!
Congrats for trying to get on track! That being said, I have to agree with other moms posting here. This diet is way too high in processed foods to really be healthy. Packaged cereal is loaded with sugars. Packaged chips are loaded with sodium and all kinds of bad stuff. For breakfast, I agree - go with whole, real oats. Or I really love quinoa flakes which you can find in Whole Foods. Mix it with a little honey and fresh fruit. Yum! Instead of peanut butter, you may want to try almond butter. It's much better for you and less fatty. For lunch, you should add some protein - lean chicken or tofu.
Also be sure to drink plenty of water (no sodas, not even diet, or other sugary drinks - including most juices). I often get headaches when I'm dehydrated.
It's going to be a process, but you'll be so happy in the end. Remember, it's not just about those 15 pounds, it's about being healthy (or at least it should be).
Best of luck!
Not likely because the things you've eaten are still fairly high in sugar and processed (you'd be surprised, check the labels). That said, the longer you aim to eat healthy, the more you'll learn and you'll be able to make the best choices without even thinking about it. You're just starting, so go easy on yourself. For the duration, think whole foods for the bulk of your diet and you'll be good to go. (no calorie counting needed) Like actual oatmeal (stone ground is best, you can find the best prices buying from the "bulk bins" in a whole foods market) perhaps with a fruit on the side (actual fruit not the cup or canned kind) instead of the "oatmeal" cereal, for example. Whole fruits and veggies are always a plus and after experimenting with new ones you might be surprised what you find. :) Like maybe using fresh avocado instead of mayo? Also, go outside your normal grains - barley is a great one for the coming winter months. Anyway, I've gone on long enough, I just thought I'd toss some tips out there. :)
Lol - yes probably missing the sugar it was used to - try eating a little protein (low fat - like egg whites or seafood) snack when you get a headache. If that doesn't work pop an advil until your body gets used to the changes (about 2-4 weeks) Good Luck!
yes, your body is releasing toxins, dont give up. drink plenty of h20, take fiber and keep on truckin!
I have to say that is still alot of sugars in your diet including simple carbohydrates.
Oatmeal squares are sugary and simple carbs, to include the skim milk. It might have high fiber, but it doesn't take away the sugars. It's almost 44 grams of carbohydrates compared to the only 4 grams of fiber you get:

Skim milk is not so innocent either.
Look at doing eggs with turkey sausage, or cottage cheese with Splenda brown sugar and pecans, or a protein shake that is low in sugars.
Bananas are great if you are running alot. Peanut butter is good for you if you purchased the all natural PB without HFCS. Look at eating two fruits or veggies for a snack: peaches, strawberries, red bell pepper strips, celery, avocadoes... just no grapes.
Lunch is only a box of veggies? I eat those with my main lunch all the time, so I know which ones you are eating... and those run about 150 calories. I would look at increasing your protein during lunch if you are going to eat the Green Giant Healthy Heart veggies. I love those veggies and they are perfect, but don't use it as only a lunch item. Add in a 1/2 cup of beans and some chicken.
You should look at South Beach or GI diet (glycemic index diet).
If all else fails, use the Couch to 5K plan: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
Good luck!
Hi L., Yes your body could definitely be doing a self-cleansing of toxins which can cause headaches. I recommend you drink lots of water between meals and over the course of your day... the recommendation to cleanse your cells and yourself in general is to drink ~1/2 oz of water for each pound of your body weight. For example a 160 pound person should drink 80 ounces of quality water per day. Congratulations for changing how you are eating... the saying that "you are what you eat" is so true!! I just went to the Isagenix Celebration in San Diego and am amazed at how much people can change their health when they put the ultimate nutrients in their bodies, and their wealth by helping others do the same!! Yes, it is just withdrawals from junk food. If breakfast and lunch aren't too far apart, I would only go with a piece of fruit and maybe a tablespoon of peanut butter to kind of dip the banana or apple in. Save the 100 cal Sun Chips for a middle of the afternoon snack. Make sure you only have about 1 cup of cereal for breakfast... or if that is not filling 2 cups but not more than that. Some cereals have hidden sugars... but in moderation it is okay. Make sure you get plenty of protein at lunch and supper and don't skimp on the veggies.
Good Luck
