Hello fellow moms. I am still trying to get in shape after having my child. He is almost 2 and instead of losing weight I gain it like no tomorrow. I am getting very close to having him weaned off breast milk :o) I was just curious what everyone has done out there as far as getting to your goals. I workout pretty much 7 days a week for close to an hour a day. There is a chance I have PCOS but I can't get tested until my son is weaned completely (hopefully very soon). Any advice would be great!!

Sleep is terribly important so is exercise. Nutrition is key to both your sleep habits and your exercise routine but it has to absorb. Sometimes your body doesn't absorb things properly after a change in your body like childbirth. Our family takes a vitamin that is guaranteed to absorb. As a matter of fact, my husband lost 110 pounds (he's a big/tall guy and was having a hard time keeping weight off when he never had before) without any diet change or activity change. His body just needed to absorb the nutrition he was getting.

Yes, sleep and exercise and eating right are all so important. However I was doing all those and nothing!!! My weight was not coming off. I went to the dr who did blood work and found out I was hypo-thyroid (low thyroid). Apparently it's a fairly common thing for women our age post pregnancy. I started on a dose of synthroid which the docs finally got the correct dosage and over the last year (it was a slow process) I lost 30 lbs. I'm fitting into my prepregnancy clothes again finally, feel like I have a whole new wardrobe. My energy level and feeling good and healthy again have made my life so much better. I'm not saying you have it, but I truly believe at least women should try to rule it out. After years of struggling to figure out what the hell was wrong with me, I now know, and can deal with it. Yes, getting adequate sleep... ALSO impacts weight loss and if lacking sleep it affects weight gain.
If I were you though... I would do what is called "interval training." Even pro-athletes do this to get into shape and lose weight. It does not take much time, and is very flexible. If you look it up online or vie Prevention magazine... you will see how easy it is... but VERY VERY strenuous and it will make you sweat tons... if done correctly... and thereby, helping you lose weight etc.
you already workout for 1 hour everyday. So.. you need to mix it up... your activities and your performance level... so that you get more variety... as well as doing Cardio AND resistance/strength training. And eating balanced of course.
Also... are you going just by what your scale says.... or do you go by your how your clothing fits??? In other words... your clothing may be getting looser (indicating you ARE losing weight) but your weight on the scale may show you 'gained' weight... because ACTUALLY you are gaining MUSCLE weight... not 'fat' weight. Thereby, you ARE getting in better shape... and gaining muscle not 'fat'.
It is always best... NOT to go ONLY according to what the scale says. But also how your clothing fits...

stop exercising so much! you are not giving your muscels time to heal, exercising tears them and if you dont take days off you cant build muscle and muscle burns twice as much calories as fat
try cutting out grains from from your diet, replace them with quinoa or gluten free oats, alos eat a lot of full volume foods, food high in water low in calories, they are filling and can help, unless of course your problem is that your not eating enough, ive heard of breastfeeding moms retaining fat to continue nursing, something to consider, also consider cooking with coconut oil and butter or ghee, if your not getting enough fat in your diet, your body is going to slow down your metabolism

First of all, great job getting so much exercise. The one change there I would suggest is to actually cut it down to six days a week. Giving your body a recovery day will actually make your muscles and metabolism work better. Also, during your workouts, (you may already be doing this) make sure you are getting at least 20 minutes of cardio that is high enough intensity to be within your target heart rate (look this up if you are not familiar with the term)
Like someone else said, make sure you are getting a good night's sleep (at least 7 hours). This is probably actually more important even than the exercise.
You did not mention your diet, but I'm guessing that if you are gaining weight on what you are eating now you are going to have to cut your calories a bit. Reduce calories gradually until you find a spot at which you are losing weight slowly (1-2 lbs per week). While you are doing this also work on the quality of what you are eating (more fruits and veggies, less processed foods and refined grains). Eating better quality foods like this will make it easier to reduce the calories without feeling hungry all the time.
