Hi! I think we've all found ourselves wanting to take off a chunk of weight in a short time for some big event, but frankly it's very difficult to do and usually unhealthy. (You're likely to binge during your trip, binge when you get home out of hunger and feeling deprived and then you'll gain back the weight and likely some more, too.) HOWEVER, you probably can lose several pounds in 3 weeks (probably not 10 unless you are very heavy and have a lot of fluid retention). Workouts 3x/week are great, but try to do some cardio EVERY DAY til your trip. Walking, running, either outdoors or on treadmill, etc. Or swim or jump rope or do a favorite cardio video -- ANYTHING. Find a way to work it in every day. If you can't find an hour per day, do 30 min. Or do 15 in the a.m., 15 at lunch, 15 before bed. Break it into as many small increments as necessary to get it done. Ex: 15 min. walk in the a.m., then every hour on the hour do 1 min. of jump rope (if you don't have a rope, pretend and go through the motions!), 15 min walk before bed. Or climb the stairs for 5 minutes, every hour. Or RUN around with your kids for 20 minutes after school every day, plus a 20 min. video. If you don't have videos you like, check w/ the public library (they're FREE there!) Whatever. And of course really watch your calories (but DON'T starve yourself! -- use an online calorie calculator to judge how many calories to take in daily) and drink a lot of water. If you're consistent about this, 3 weeks is enough time to take off a few pounds. I am always hungry, too (live to eat!) and what helps curb the appetite is lots of fiber (25 grams per day, which requires a lot of fruit, veggies and whole grains) and small doses of protein throughout the day. Good luck and have a GREAT trip!
