Weight Isssues

Why does it take me 4 weeks to lose about 5 lbs., but only 1-2 weeks of not eating well or exercising (busy with kids' activities or work events, etc.) to put it back on? I guess this is more of a rhetorical question, but does this happen for anyone else? It is sooo frustrating!

What can I do next?

You are so not alone! It always boggles my mind how long it takes to lose the weight and how fast it just comes right back on! However, for me, my doc recently diagnosed me with a thyroid problem. So I'm hoping that once those meds start kicking in it will help a little bit with that problem!

R., dont know how old you are but it gets harder as you get older. In my 20's & 30's it was quite easy to drop a pound or two if my jeans felt tight. Now in my 50's it is a whole different story. Even tho my eating habits and such havent changed I have began to gain weight in my middle only. I seem to have lost my waist. I think my problem tho is the big M setting in.

You can eat a lot of food and not gain weight. It just has to be the RIGHT food!!! (that is easy to type, hard to do.)

When I am really hungry, about that time of the month especially, I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies. Whole grain breads and crackers and lean protein.
You can satisfy your appetite and still not feel like you are starving.

No high fructose corn syrup and white breads or crackers! These items will help you feel full short term but the rapid drop in glucose a couple hours later will send you back to the pantry.

I know, the cake and the ice cream always looks better than the salad, the All Bran crackers or the low-sugar yogurt.
But you can eat the healthy foods with less worry of weight gain.

I've lost almost 30 pounds since the Fourth of July. I FINALLY eliminated diet soda and added fiber (that stuff you mix-in) and I feel soooo much better. I also only Facebook when I can sit on the bike...the time flies!

If losing weight was easy we'd all be thin as a rail. I wish I had better news for you (and me). :)

When you gain 5 lbs quickly, it's most likely primarily a water gain. I can gain and lose and gain 5 lbs in a matter of a couple of weeks without changing my diet or activities. I think it's a chemical/biological process that requires a professional to answer why.

I second the age thing. I'm 48 and it's almost impossible to lose weight.

I can SO feel your pain! I have been struggling with losing "that last 10 pounds" for months now and am incredibly frustrated by it. Used to be I could easily drop 5 lbs. Now a week of deprivation usually yields about a pound, and after a couple good meals (read: having fun and enjoying my food instead of suffering) over the weekend, it's right back! ACK! "Filling up on fruits and veggies" does nothing for me. My stomach feels like I just ate a bunch of paper but I'm STILL hungry! Plus having kids doesn't help at all. We're always at some sort of party or event with lots of tempting, 'forbidden' food.

My older sister, who's a total beanpole, swears by Weight Watchers online. When you think about it, it's really just a well-regulated form of portion control, which seems to be the best approach for me. I also bought Jillian Michaels' '30 Day Shred' exercise video, which packs a lot of workout into a little bit of time. Easier than trying to get to the gym.

Good luck --you're not alone!
