Hi Mamas,

I guess I just need to know if this has happened to anyone else. I know this may sound selfish and superficial, but.... I am barely 8 weeks pregnant and already my pants are getting tight. I have gained about 7 pounds too. I am just feeling conerned out about it. This is my second pregnancy, and I have heard that your body changes faster after the first, but this fast?? With my first pregnancy I didn't have to wear maternity clothes until month 6. If anyone has experienced this please let me know. Thank you!

What can I do next?

yup I started showed way faster the second time too! no ultrasound at the first appointment... for me youhave to go to somewhere special for that, but you can ask for 1st trimester screening that wasn't offered to me the first time. Good luck!

Hi,
I understand what you're feeling as I've been there. With my first, people I saw regularly were just discovering I was pregnant 3 weeks before she was born. With the second, I needed maternity wear by 12 weeks.
I found a wonderful cookbook called The Pregnant Woman's Diet and that helped with nutritional needs and keeping my weight under control. I don't know if that book is still in print or not.
Good luck with this second baby. I wouldn't trade any of mine for anything.
Thanks,
E.

I am pregnant for the fourth time, and I noticed weight gain and my belly when I found out, at about 6 weeks.... now I am almost noticeably pregnant at 10 weeks. I am mom of 3- 12, 9 and 2, and I stay at home full time- I have to say that they say if you are more out of shape it happens sooner- and staying at home, not getting much exercise I am definitely one of tho0se- anyway- good luck! After my next appointment I'm going to go shopping..............!

Hi D.,
I gained more lbs. with my second pregnancy which is pretty typical. I think I had more time with my first pregnancy to take care about working out. With the second, you are too busy taking care of the first child that you forget to take care of yourself like you did the first time around. Don't kick yourself over it. Try to do some walking if you can. Walking is great. Try to eat more salads and stay away from processed foods. Drink lots and lots of water, no caffeine or soft drinks. And after you deliver the baby and are ready to lose the weight, get in touch with me because I have an excellent way to get your health back and one of the benefits from the program is losing weight and inches. You can go to my website: www.gocleanse.com/gsmeter to learn more. I am listed on the business website as well. So, don't worry especially if you are doing everything you can to eat better and stay healthy. Our bodies do go through a change and every pregnancy is different.

It is quite normal, I would think. Your body knows what to do and its doing it sooner than during the first time. I too am 8 weeks pregnant and have gained nearly seven pounds. This is my 4th pregnancy. My 3rd pregnancy I only gained a total of 15 pounds. Each pregnancy will be different. Things will be fine. Congrats on your blessing.

Take heart and don't be hard on yourself. With my second pregnancy I gained weight/girth so early on that the Dr. thought I had twins... then it slowed down toward the end and all was well. Normal, happy, healthy baby and that weight came off pretty easily, too.

Your story sounds EXACTLY like mine. Just eat healthy, and maintain moderation. I gave up trying because it seemed like a lost cause, and then it took me 2 years to lose the weight. Congrats on your new baby!

Don't feel worried. I got pregnant 9 mos. after I had a procedure to correct my overactive thyroid. Believe you me...I went from 138 lbs. to 180 lbs. plus 30 lbs. of pregnancy weight. I gained weight fast!! When I delivered my daughter I weighed 210 lbs.! I'm 5 ft. 3 in.....my poor little frame could hardly bare the weight. Needless to say I was so scared of staying that way and also of getting pre-clampsia and all the other stuff that all the books warn you about when you are heavy. But...I ate healthy and walked and I indulged a little here and there. Overall I had a very healthy pregnancy and a very healthy beautiful baby girl. She weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz. and 6 mo. later I was losing weight...of couse I was excersising, pumping milk, and eating healthy. 1 year later I was weighing 155 lbs. (My weight now fluctuates due to my thyroid) anywho my girlfriends have all experienced a faster weight gain and a faster show. I would say that if you are sitting all day eating twinkies well then that's something to think about because as you know your body gives the baby all the nutrients you take in and leaves you with whats left. But if you eat well and excercise and your Dr. is not concerned then why worry? You have more important things to think about....like enjoying your pregnancy glow, what you are going to name the baby, getting the nursery ready, etc. etc. Enjoy your pregnancy, take care of your body and mind, and remember why you are doing this. You are giving your little one a very special gift. Life! Congratulations and Best Wishes.

Sorry, but it just happens with the second pregnancy. I didn't have to wear maternity clothes until I was 6 months pregnant with my first, but it was only 4 months into my second that I had to switch. The good thing was, I weighed exactly the same when I gave birth to both - I gained almost 30 pounds with both kids. And I'm very small framed, and tall, so it was a HUGE deal for me to gain that much weight! But it was all baby, pretty much, so it came off reasonably well.
So don't worry - your body just "remembers", so it changes quicker.

I'm seven weeks pregnant with my second child and have already gained 10 lbs or so and am already showing (I actually got a small bulge around week 5). I freaked out the first time I stepped on the doctor scale and saw the difference. I spent the last year losing 45 lbs, so I was on a calorie reduced diet. When I got pregnant I knew I had to increase my calorie intake, not only to normal but to add some for pregnancy, so I should have had about 800 extra calories to play around with. I may have gone over a little (eating helps my morning sickness), but I still didn't see how I could have gone over that much. All the pregnancy weight trackers online are for first timers and say I should have only gained a couple of pounds so far. Most websites that do talk about second pregnancies just say you show faster but don't talk about the weight gain differences. Reading all these posts helps put my mind at ease. I was so afraid that I just overate and that meant I was going to gain even more throughout the pregnancy, but I've read how many women level off toward the end, so I'm not as worried, now. I just wish this information was easier to find. Everything online is geared toward first time pregnancies.

Every pregnancy is different sweetie. Your body has already been prego once so already knows the streching part of being prego. For me it was 12 weeks max before I "needed" to buy clothes. I'm not sure if you worked out your first pregnancy, but I would definatly recommended it. Have a workout program. By the way, you can workout when you are prego. Really watch what you eat. Don't just eat anything because your prego. These two things should slow it down, but you are still going to get big faster than last time, it's life. Sorry Sweetie!

P.S. Congrats!!!

D.,

Yes, with every pregnancy you can start gaining/showing sooner than with your first...it's our biological right;) LOL. I know it's not easy, but just stay focused on being healthy and not about the weight gain. Eat your fruits, veggies, protien, and an occassional ice cream! Drink enough water to stay hydrated and stay as active as your body can. A healthy mom during pregnancy ALMOST always grows a healthy baby.
Also, what story are you telling yourself about your weight gain during this pregnancy? Are you not wanting to gain as much as your first one? Are you concerned about the wieght you are now? How are you honoring your body and what your body is able to do - how it moves and grows and able to give birth?
I have some great information on eating during pregnancy if you'd like to contact me.

Much good energy to you during this pregnancy.
Also, if you'd like some information on birth preparation for Birthing Again parents you can to to www.birthingfromwithin.com for more info.

In peace,

Don't worry now. With my second pregnancy, I gained 37 pounds and wore maternity clothes in my second trimester. With my first, I just gained 18 pounds and wore no maternity clothes - I was able to buy bigger sizes in non-maternity clothes. As long as your doctor thinks it is ok, then it is.

Hi D.,

I had this happen and I ended up pregnant with twins! I don't want to scare you because obviously it could be just weight gain, as they do say that you gain weight/show faster with your 2nd pregnancy. Especially since your muscles and organs have the memory of stretching and shifting. But you should find out at your first visit, now days they do an ultra-sound the first visit.

Good luck!
C. (and P.S., if it IS twins, it's not so bad) :)

Hi D.! It happens to us all!! You will gain it faster and lose your waist almost immediately. So try to go with the flow - watch what you eat a little more than you did the first time and go light on the fruit - natural sugar thats how I gained most of my weight with #2!
You will be so happy with 2 little ones, I sure am!

Welcome to multi motherhood. I did the same thing your body knows what to do now and it will do it sooner. I have 3 and my body never got to its original size, but it is down to a healthy size and I look good. You will too if you do not stress too much over it. I believe if you eat small meals threwout the day you will do great! And do not stress!!! It can cause weight gain. Good luck

Yes in general you tend to pop fairly quickly with second pregnancy but it balances out later term. Relax.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of pure water every day. Also, a pinch of salt on your tongue a couple times a day, and some fresh lemon in the water, helps the body to process that water and keep the system flushing toxins through. You should also make sure you are getting pure and natural (not synthetic) vitamins and trace minerals. The most pure and potent vitamin C source I know of is called Pure Camu - it has more vitamin C per serving than 30 oranges plus it has a complete profile of B vitamins and amino acids so that the body can absorb and use the vitamin C. The most pure and natural source of trace minerals is called Aquazon. It combines fresh-water blue-green algae with red marine fucus for a complete profile of trace minerals, omega 3s, and amino acids. They can't be purchased at the store so if you are interested in a website link please let me know. It is important to put only the purest and best things in your body when you are creating another life. Give your baby the best start to a healthy future it can get by taking excellent care of yourself.

During my first trimester of my first pregnancy, I gained 10 pounds! I was terrified. I ended up gaining 35 total. In the last month of my pregnancy, I didn't gain any weight at all. I didn't try to not gain weight in the end, it just seemed to balance itself out. I read somewhere that it has been scientifically proven that boys require more calories during a pregnancy and that weight gain is typically higher with boys. Maybe its a boy... :)

Hi D....
I am also 8 weeks pregnant & still haven't lost the baby weight from my first child (7 month old baby girl); but I have been determined not to gain a huge amount of weight too fast. My husband & I came up with a strick regiment that we follow everyday... we walk for atleast a half hour 4 days a week, eat relatively healthy (no sugary foods or soda), and we do not eat carbs after 5pm and close our kitchen after 8:30pm (except water). At first this was hard for me, but I've manage to actually loose 8 pounds in the last month... and staying healthy! I hope this helps; I know its not easy, but its important for you to be healthy to help your little baby grow inside of you!

This sounds a lot like me! With my first, I didn't start wearing maternity clothes until month 6, even then they were big. But with my second, I was wearing maternity clothes at 2-3 months! You do gain more weight with the second, and it comes faster since your body already knows what to do. Make sure you work with your dr to make sure it's not too much, but I'm sure you will be fine. By the way, I hate to tell you this, but it takes longer to lose too!

Hello D. P.
The same thing happened to me. My oldest son was 5 yrs old when I got pregnant. Everything started changing extremely fast, I was concerned too. I was told the same thing that with your second pregnancy your body will change and start to "show" a lot sooner that with your first pregnancy. I think I gained almost 15 pounds within my first couple of months. I kept getting bigger and by my forth month I looked like I was 8 months pregnant. Needless to say after my fifth (5)ultrasound, I learned I was having twins! Even though the first 4 ultrasounds all said I was having a single baby. I'm not saying your going to have twins, but I did find out that no matter what you do or how you control your eating, your still going to change, show, and gain weight faster than you did with your first pregnancy. I was told by my "high risk OBGYN" that basically when you get pregnant, a second and third and so on, your body reacts like "Hey I've done this before I know what I'm suppose to be doing"! So don't worry continue doing what your doing because your body is doing exactly what it should be doing. Congrats on your up and coming little one or ones (LOL):)!

Yes, very normal. I lost weight until month six with my first, but once I started gaining I gained the same as my second pregnancy even though on my second one I gained a lot in the beginning. With the second it leveled off after a few months and there were several months my weight stayed the same. And then with my third we were installing our yard, so I was digging holes and felt great, I gained the same with the first two. My third pregnancy I gained about 10 lbs. less. I think as long as you work out after you have the baby and try to eat right you will be fine. Don't worry too much, stress is not good for the baby. Now is the time to enjoy your pregnancy.
Take care and God Bless,
K.

Hi there! I felt the same way! I went into maternity clothes right away with my second. Before I even knew I was pregnant my clothes were fitting me too tightly. Everything is already "stretched" so to speak so, yes, it happens much quicker. In the end, my total weight gain was only about 2 pounds more than my first pregnancy. I didn't mind the maternity clothes so much. Just think of it has a whole new wardrobe. Buy something that makes you feel really cute instead of . . . well, fat. Whenever I got down about my looks/weight I just went to a second hand store and bought a cute maternity shirt. Enjoy your pregnancy! It's the best feeling in the world!!
