My DH and I want to take a weekend getaway with our one-yr. old son. Does anyone have any suggestions for something close by (within an hour or two drive) that is both relaxing (for DH) and kid friendly (for our son) and perhaps also has spa facilities (for Mommy to enjoy) as well. Would Lake Texhoma have anything in this catergory? I am relatively new to Texas so I hardly know the area very well. I looked into Lake Austin (but boy, are their rates pretty high for a 3day package). Thanks in advance, for your suggestions and your time,
K.

Have you considered the Gaylord Texan? It is close enough that if there were any problems with your one year old you wouldn't be out of town. They have a spa and gorgeous grounds. The rooms are nice and there are a variety of shops inside to stroll through. This may be more than you want to spend but it is a nice getaway place.

Just a thought.

Hi K.,

I do not recommend the Tanglewood Resort at Lake Texoma (if you were considering that option). Although it looks nice over the Internet, it is NOT worth the money. My DH and I took our then 8 month old son to Tanglewood last summer and had a horrible experience. If you need more details on my negative thoughts of Tanglewood I could write a novel.

This summer we took our now 19 month old son to Glen Rose, TX (about 1 1/2 hours from Coppell). We stayed in a Master Suite (2 bedroom, 2 full bath with separate sitting area and table) at the Best Western Dinosaur Valley Inn & Suites. It was affordable, clean and nice. Also, the hotel served a complimentary hot breakfast and complimentary evening hors-d'oeuvres. Finally, the hotel has a 1 1/2 ft children's wading pool that is mostly shaded. The only thing it lacked was a day spa for Moms. Also, we drove through the Fossil Rim Wildlife Park the next morning, which our son enjoyed (for the most part). He slept through the last half as it was nap-time. I hope this helps.

thought about Turner Falls in Oklahoma or that area? They have quite a few things to do... you could drive down to Fredericksburg and stay in a cabin there... just kinda tool around town (lots of neat shops)... have a kitchenette so you can make snacks and stuff....
