Looking for a reasonable weekend getaway for husband and I. He has a birthday coming up in July. I would love something real nice but not too expensive. Plus already have a sitter for our child on that weekend.
If you really don't want to drive far, consider Fearington Inn, just outside Chapel Hill. I think it's a little pricey, but you'd save on gas! Also are great B&Bs in Pinehurst, only an hour away. Lots of little shops and great restaurants in the village too.
A B&B in the mountains!
The only one I have been to remotely close to here is Sugar Tee Inn, in Virginia, (www.sugartreeinn.com) but I think it is about 3 to 4 hours to drive. But I am sure if you search B & B in the Asheville area you'd find a bunch of ideas.
If you like to hike & like waterfalls, Sugar Tree is right down the road from Crabtree Falls - Beautiful! They have cabins separate from the main house & rooms in the main house & a hot tub that is lovely at midnight!

We just got back from a trip to the mountains yesterday. It was really nice with cooler temperatures. I have a page from a flyer that lists several 'rentals' for a week or per day for vacationers if you would like it. Mostly around Asheville--the western part of the state. It is around 4 hours from Raleigh. They have several little streams around, obviously the mountains, the Biltmore to tour, Mt. Mitchell, Chimney Rock and other hiking places, etc. I am sure you could research the area and find more. Maybe they even have a little festival of some sort on the weekend you want to go. They usually have a lot in the summer. :)
