Wedding Gift for Couple Renewing Vows

A friend of ours is getting "re-married" in 2 weeks and i'm stuck on gift ideas. They were married by justice of the peace in 07 right before they were deployed to Iraq. They are just now having the ceremony and reception. What do you get for a couple that has their own house full of things already? They are both under 23, so ideas for that age range would be great! Thanks!

Hey J., What about a gift certificate to A.C. Moore (or other photo place) So they could get great frames for their wedding photos?

Ok . They have "things" . Are you close enough to them to simply ask her if there is something in particular she needs/ wants?
Gift certificates are always a welcome gift...that way they can pick out and buy something the have their eye on...no replications of stuff they already have.
Nice restaurants, theaters, ect...also offer gift certificates.
Electronic stores if they like the movies/music CD stuff...at their age its likely they probably have a favorite band or two.
Best wishes to them and to you and your hubby.
And God bless you all

If you go the gift card route, just be careful to check if it has an expiration date or loses value over time. Those can be a drag if they aren't used right away.

One thing we got was a money balloon. Do you know others who are going to the wedding as well? If so, that's always fun to have a bunch of people go together on the gift so that the balloon has a bunch of money in it.

Do they have a registry? We did, but were shy about letting folks know about it (I didn't grow up in a tradition of doing that), so we hardly got anything from that list. It might be worth asking.

A special night out or basket is fun. It gives a personal touch and encourages them to spend a special evening together. If they have kids, you could offer to babysit for the evening to make it even more special for them.

One of my favorite gifts was a brand new cordless drill from my brother's family. We laughed about it because I was more excited about it than my husband! I came to the marriage with more tools than him and I thought it was the perfect gift. Today, we both think it was an awesome gift!

Or, how about a nice wind chime, piece of pottery, or nice flower vase? Something they might not necessarily get themselves, that will be a special reminder whenever they hear it or use it. Or, even a good quality grill set (if they grill)--something they'll use on a regular basis that is a reminder of their reaffirmation of love.

Have fun with it and make it personal!

Depending on their interests, you might consider tickets to something - a sporting event, the theater, a concert (classical or rock or country), a comedy night, etc. Or a weekend away at a bed & breakfast. This would be something that several friends could go in on. Gift cards are nice but if their house is already filled with stuff, why give them more? If they didn't have a honeymoon before being deployed, then a weekend at a romantic inn might be perfect.

J.,

Some thoughts:

1. Money, while it seems tastless at times, came in handy for my husband and me when we got married - and think, they can't return it!

2. A gift card to Lowe's or Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, or just a Visa Gift Card are also very useful and appreciated.

While none of these are very creative, I know that this was the most valuable of the things that I got - even of the things I chose for my registry.

Have fun at the ceremony and reception!

Depending on what you want to spend, an AMEX gift card is always good because they can pick up whatever they need with it. You can also get them a nice restaurant gift card. If you don't want to assign a dollar figure to it, you could try and find something to have personalized, like a blanket (that might be hard - which date to you pick?), or just with their names on it. I've always been a fan of something home-made like a "datenight basket", put in a movie/DVD, bottle of wine, cheese, crackers, grapes, chocolate, maybe a cute set of outfits for them (comfy but sexy). I had gotten something similar and thought it was neat.

Hi J.
Congrats to the "New" couple!
I know when my husband and I got married-we were each divorced and neither were wealthy-so our home was a mixture of yours mine and everyone's left overs.
Depending on this couple's circumstances-do they have new stuff or is it like ours was?
If it is new stuff-then just money.
If it is like mine was-then something new-or gift cards.
Good luck.

Hi J. - a gift certificate or money is always usable, if you know their favorite restaurant you could get them one there. Do they have kids? I love dream dinners, you could get them a gift certificate to prepare some dinners? Just a few thoughts.
Have a great day!
