My father-in-law is re-marrying in a couple of weeks, my mother-in-law passed away from cancer almost 2 years ago. We have no idea on what to get him for a wedding gift. There is not much that they actually need so I wasn't sure if any one has ever bought a wedding gift for an in law/parent and had any suggestions..Thanks for your help!!
I like the "day away" (golf, spa, fishing, etc.) idea.
Another would be photo frames/ photo albums... for their new life together. Esp if she has grown kids & grandkids a big "family tree" multiphoto frame with a wedding photo of the two of them in the center would also be really special.
I've been in your exact scenario. We ended up getting them a gift certificate to use towards a day trip excursion to a local island. Something for them to do together but not too personal. They actually used it right away.
When my Dad remarried and my FIL remarried we gave each a nice bottle of Wine. Another suggestion is Gift Certificates to restaurants that they enjoy.
A service or something. Like a day of golf for him and a spa day for her? Donation to something they like? Membership to a place they like (botanical garden, museum, etc)

Gift certificate to a Bed & Breakfast or a B&B association where they can use it on any place part of the association.
When my mother and stepfather were married we paid for the Honeymoon night room at a beautiful hotel.
We had the same situation a few years ago when my mother remarried after my dad had passed away 9 years previously. We bought a very nice wall-mountable frame with four places for photos. It had enough space that they could have photos of their large extended families.
Think about what their interests are...then think of what you can do that is somehow connected with those interests. Do they like to travel? Do they garden? Are they into exercise? I also like the idea of a family tree picture frame...or maybe you could arrange to have a formal family picture taken...get all of both sides of the family together...and have the new blended family represented in a great picture!!! You could even make the get together part of the present....plan a dinner party or rent a shelterhouse at the local park...and just have a great day together!! Maybe a casual picture of all of the family at that type of get together would be even better than a professional one at a photography studio!!! Find out if someone on either side of the family has a great camera and is willing to do the honors!
Maybe you could also make a photo album of casual pictures of the day together....start the day off with two families...end up with one BIG happy one!!!
