I have a wedding coming up in may. We are already married but are have our "big" wedding now. I need some ideas for creative favors for guests. I do not want to do the typical candies that many do. I also need to make sure that this is not very expensive because we are both in school and have a baby girl so we are on a budget. Any ideas will be so helpful, Thanks so much in advance!

So What Happened?

My husband and i discussed it and we decided that we were going to skip the favors. Many of you made a lot of sense, I do not believe I've ever kept a wedding favor, so why waste the money. Thanks so much to everyone for your very creative ideas, it's great to know I have support somewhere.

Hi A., My name is A. and I Didn't do any big thing. I Bought a gift card for each the brides maid and best man. I put out a few cups of nuts and gave everyone bubbles that I put netting on and a little hand made tag that either said love, respect, or trust, ect. That served as the (Rice) as we left. I hope this helps.

One of the most memorable from a friends wedding were seeds in a little pouch with a poem that said something about planting the seeds and watching their love grow through the years. Something fun ppl can take home. Good luck!

You can make a cd with you and your husband's favorite songs on it. Very cheap since you can create the list and burn it on your own computer. You can also print a picture of the 2 of you for the case.

We also didn't do wedding favors...but after the wedding when sending thank-you cards we included a wallet size photo of us from our wedding day. We had a friend take a digital pic of us outside. Then we had them developed at WalMart as wallets. When I cut each of them out, I used my scrapbooking corner cutter to round the corners. They looked very professional. I then put a small address label on the back of each with our names, address (we had moved) and wedding date. It amazes me how many people we visit who have it on their fridges.

I bought hear-shaped cookie cutters from a craft supply store in bulk, then tied them to small pieces of card stock with the words "Truly Cut Out For each other!" our names, and wedding date on it. We printed a sugar cookie recipe on the back because my mom insisted on it, but I didn't think it was necessary. We also found a wedding website where we ordered personalized golf tees for super cheap to scatter on the table. (The reception was on a golf course) Good luck and Congrats!

Hey Amanda-

My favorite favor so far were mini plants in those really small pots. I'm not sure how this would price out but it's something else to look into. I also want to add that we didn't have any favors and no one missed them. Good luck with your decision.

We had some cute very inexpensive favors at our wedding. We took a round piece of tulle, some Hershey's Kisses, and made a bag around the Kisses with the tulle and tied it with a little piece of ribbon. On the ribbon we put a card that said " A Handful of Kisses, For Our Best Wishes, As (Mr Amanda- LOL) and Amanda , Become Mr and Mrs!".

Amanda,
Congratulations! We didn't do favors at our wedding - and we still have people tell us (8 years later) that it was one of the best weddings they have ever been too. I don't think people care. Some ideas I have seen though are: having a bowl with goldfish in it as a centerpiece and the guests were allowed to take the fish home. Kind of unusual. I also love the cd idea - but if you can make copies of your engagement or a fun picture of the two of you - have that be your cover. Good Luck - enjoy your day!

Amanda,
My husband and I got married just over a year ago and we were on a budget also. I made bookmarks. I got plain white book marks at Wal-Mart, I believe, and then I used our computer and put a poem on them that represented my husband and I and our children. On the bottom I put our names and our childrens names and the date. I used a paper hole punch and put ribbon at the top in our colors. They were very simple and pretty. I hate going to weddings and getting favors and then throwing them away. I figured a lot of people could reuse these. I hope this helps and I hope you have a wonderful wedding!

Most of the weddings I have been to have koozies as the favor. The are handed out at the bar when we order our beer, soda, or drink. The koozies are personalized with the couples name and wedding date on one side and a cute saying or logo on the otherside. Some of them we have have a college logo(Iowa Hawkeyes)on one side because they meet in college, some have been camaflouge because the groom is a hunter, etc. (some of them short funny poems on them of how they met.)
Have a wonderful celebration and best wishes! T.

My favorite is burned CDs of your favorite, meaningful songs. Then on the case for the CD, use paper that is your wedding colors and make sure you put your info, ie Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, January 1, 2007. On the inside label, you can list all of your songs. Song one, what you walked down the aisle to, song two is the couples first dance. Very simple, inexpensive and very memorable. Tie it with a bow and put a select amount on your table. Remember you do not need one for each guest but plan on one per household. SOme great songs are Pocabelle, (I really messed up that spelling) At Last, Somewhere over the Rainbow, any Michael Buble is a great choice. You get my drift, sweet intimate songs that bring romance out to your guests when they get home..... Congrats on your nuptials and please let me know what you choose. I love weddings....

I like the bookmark idea! Maybe you could put a picture of the two of you from the original wedding and the original wedding info. Also a quick heartfelt Thank you to your guests for coming to help you celebrate. Add a ribbon to the top in your color scheme and you're done. I have made bookmarks like these at home on my own computer, so it can be done inexpensively. Congratulations.

Do something that fits your personality. For our reception, we had baskets on the tables full of peppermint pinwheels for guests to help themselves to. One sister had Mike 'n Ikes, another sister had M&Ms, and yet another sister had packages of fruit snacks.
In my opinion, you don't need anything fancy. Most guests will not cherish keepsakes from other people's weddings like the bride would. Just have fun with it! =)

I went to a wedding where they gave out small bamboo shoots in votives with a few clear rocks in the bottom (and water). They were really pretty decorations and if kept alive can be lovely favors!!

I also didn't do anything special for my wedding. My husband and I attended a wedding that gave everyone a music cd with the couple's favorite songs on it. That actually was touching and a clever idea. I really like the bookmark idea. Wether you decide to do something special for your guests doesn't have to be an extraordinary amount. Making it from the heart adds extra special touch. Good luck and have fun on your BIG wedding.

In order to save money, it's best to make them yourself ... if you have 3 or 4 people to help, an "assembly line" will make it just an afternoon affair. My suggestion is to buy tulle circles, ribbon, and the Hershey's kisses and hugs candy. Put a couple of each one in and wrap and tie a "note" saying "Hugs and Kisses from the new Mr. & Mrs." Use Word to make labels that say that, just print off on paper instead of labels and cut.

Good luck and congratulations!

We gave out chocolate bars with custom labels. They had our names & the date on the front and on the back was the list of our wedding party. I can't remember from where we ordered them, but I am sure you could find them online.

Hi. First off, congrats! I wish you many years of happiness! Now, about the party favors, I was just at a wedding on Saturday, 2-21-09, & on the table, they had funnel bags filled with hot chocolate & mini marshmallows. Another idea would be to type up a little something about yourselves about how you met, or along those lines, and set the info on table. You could print it on designed paper for each guest. If I think of any thing else, I'll repost. Congrats again!

For our wedding, we found a web site where you could order personalized fortune cookies. I seem to remember it being pretty reasonable. I liked it because it is somewhat unique, but still something edible that most people are likely to take.

Amanda,

Congrats on your upcoming "big" wedding!

I am going to offer you an entirely different perspective on wedding favors: Do your pocketbook and the landfills a favor, and skip them! No one will even notice, and many favors that aren't candy just end up in the trash, anyway. Put the money you'd save towards something for your daughter.

I had a friend who was married 2 years ago, and she spent literally hours and hours making origami birds as the wedding favor. When we left the reception, the birds were scattered all over the place: on the floor, piled on the ends of tables. Most people just left them behind. We did bring ours home and admired them for a couple of days before throwing them out. At another friend's wedding, each table had their own little cakes, and the cake stands were actually huge cans of spaghetti sauce wrapped in silver paper. The favors were supposed to be the cans of spaghetti sauce, but again, hardly anyone took a can home--my friend ended up with LOTS of spaghetti sauce in her pantry. ;-)

I didn't do a wedding favor at my wedding, and no one commented or asked if there was one. I did briefly consider doing bookmarks, so that would be my sole recommendation to you. You could put a favorite poem or even a photo of you, your husband, and daughter on them.

Good luck, and don't lose sight of what this day is really about!

Hi, Amanda!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

My husband and I ordered an assortment of cheap little musical instruments like kazoos, slide whistles and maracas online. When we walked out of the church, everyone played their instrument instead of throwing rice/birdseed. It was cleaner than sticky bubbles, we didn't spend hours wrapping little packages of birdseed, and it was awesome to be greeted by a wall of sound while exiting the church! The children LOVED it and their parents assured me that they all took the instruments home and continued to "enjoy" making noise with them there!!

You can just use Google to find cheap favors or instruments such as these. We didn't bother splurging to get them personalized and nobody noticed.

Good luck with the planning!
