"A Storybook Love" from "The Princess Bride." Not a well known song but a relevant one. Find it on Amazon or by the soundtrack.
I need a 1st dance song for me and my guy... I'm terrible at this wedding stuff!! Seriously, the first song that comes to mind is 'Faithless' by Social Distortion... yeah, this is why I need help ;)
I also need a song for me and my dad. I remember that forever ago I heard the song 'Butterfly Kisses' by I DON'T KNOW WHO, and I thought 'huh, if I ever get married, that's the song I'd play when my daddy and I dance'... but I haven't heard it in a while.
I'm not trying for super cheesey here ;) Any suggestions??
My parents song is 'Time in a Bottle' by again, I forget who, and I love that everytime I hear that song, I think of them :)
NO country music please ;)
Also thought of 'Just the Thought of You' by Billie Holiday... when my brother got married, him and his wife used on of her other songs :)
YOU ARE ALL LIFE SAVERS!! Great, now instead of working I get to look up music all day, LOL!! ;)
"A Storybook Love" from "The Princess Bride." Not a well known song but a relevant one. Find it on Amazon or by the soundtrack.
My husband and I danced to Angel Eyes by the Jeff Healey band, that was in 1990 when it was hugely popular. The popular song for a couple's first dance this year is Marry Me by Train.
If you are into country there is a new song called, "Are you going to kiss me or not' By Thompson Square that would be a fun one.
We danced to, "I Could Not Ask For More" Edwain Mccain.
Daddy Daughter
Bob Carlisle sings butterfly kisses. It's what I danced to.
What A Wonderful World - Luis Armstrong
I Loved Her First by Heartland
Or a little funkier Arms Wide Open-Creed
That's the first ones that popped into my head. But if you just google wedding daddy daughter dances, you'll get tons of hits.
We used "I Want to Grow Old With You" from the Wedding Singer Soundtrack. :)
I turned to my husband the music guru of my family...lol. He is also a hopeless romantic. His suggestions are:
Lost in your eyes....Debbie Gibson
Close my eyes forever...lita Ford and Izzy Osborne
your my inspiration. And will u still love me....Chicago
From this moment on....shania Twain and Bryan white
I knew I loved you...savage garden
Your song...Elton john
cherish....kool and the gang.
For the daddy daughter dance....I loved her first...heartland
Sorry for replying so late hope we helped. Please share with us you choices. Wish you well.
Updated
I walked down the aisle to "We've Only Just Begun" by The Carpenters
After the ceremony, we kissed and retreated back down the aisle to "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns 'n' Roses (it's 'our song') =p
Our first dance was to "You Look Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton
But it was a hard toss up with "More Than Works" by Extreme
God Luck :)
We did Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World for our song.
For me and my dad - Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight
A great song for the goom and his mom is "Isn't she Lovely" by Stevie Wonder.
Also, you can't go wrong with a 1st dance classic by Frank Sinatra. Fly Me to the Moon (my song), The Way you Look Tonight.
Elvis - Can't Help Falling in Love with you
Beatles - In My Life
Paul Anka - Put Your Head on my Shoulder
I personally like classics for a first dance. Then you can mix it up for the rest of the night (I did a Cheap Trick song for my cake cutting and we ended the night with Judas Priest).
Our first dance song was "at the begining" from the Anastasia soundtrack. My hubby and I had never actually seent he movie before but one of my bridesmaides picked it to sing at our wedding ceremony. We loved it so much that we used it for our first dance also.
http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/anastasia/atthebeginning.htm
I also always liked Witney Housten's My Love is Your Love. We were going to use that one at first because we used a verse out of that song for our invitations.
My dad and I danced to Butterfly kisses by Bob Carlisle. My dad has since passed and this song still makes me cry. My daughter loves getting butterfly kisses from her daddy too.
Our first song was "Here I Am" Ending credits version from the soundtrack Spirit. It's more of an upbeat song... but it seemed for fit us. My wedding march was also from a movie soundtrack. Fiona's theme song from Shrek, "It is you that I have loved". Made my husband cry like a baby... tee hee. ;)
HERE I AM
Here I am - this is me
There's no where else on earth I'd rather be
Here I am - it's just me and you
And tonight we make our dreams come true
It's a new world - it's a new start
It's alive with the beating of young hearts
It's a new day - it's a new plan
I've been waiting for you
Here I am
Here we are - we've just begun
And after all this time - our time has come
Ya here we are - still goin' strong
Right here in the place where we belong
[Chorus]
Here I am - next to you
And suddenly the world is all brand new
Here I am - where I'm gonna stay
Now there's nothin standin in our way
Here I am - this is me

Bob and I danced to Angel Eyes by the Jeff Healy band...that is SOO our song.
youtube Joshua Kadison and he has some WONDERFUL songs...like Beautiful in my Eyes....it's about a man who has loved this W. her whole life and loves EVERYTHING about her....even as she ages...
I danced with my dad to Wind Beneath my wings - by Bette Midler....
Time in a Bottle is Jim Croce.
I can't remember the song I danced to Ian when we married - how sad is that...give me a few minutes and I'll remember it....but there are soooo many songs that would be great!
I like The Way You Look Tonight, but Eric Clapton's version...i guess it's called Wonderful Tonight
We used Waste by Phish but that's prob not up your alley.
For something a little more upbeat I love Not Fade Away by Grateful Dead
What is your musical preference? Are you looking for upbeat or a slow dance?
Jim Croce sang "Time In A Bottle" Too bad you dont want country or Id go with "Can I Have This Dance" by Anne Murray.
If you want a sweet song for you-check out Forever Begins Tonight by Patrizio Buanne. Sweet song, and he has a really gorgeous voice!
Ours was "All My Life" by K-Ci and JoJo. It came out in the late '90s but it's one of my favorites. Two more songs I like are "I Swear" by All-4-One (also from the '90s), and "From This Moment" by Shania Twain (I know you said no country, but I don't technically count this song as country). :-) Good luck with all the wedding plans!
Coming up on my 20th anniversary in July. We did "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers..."Oooooo, my love... my darling..... I've hungered for your touch"....old and slow song. We had our dance at a public ballroom when a 50's type band was playing that we liked. It was a fun whirlwind night..not a typical wedding in most ways but we loved it! This was actually the only song we danced together to all night and they gave us the whole floor to ourselves (it was a HUGE place with hundreds of people there...like a small concert with a dancefloor...so that part was pretty cool!)..about 75 of the guests attending the ballroom that night were for our wedding recepetion!
We were busy dancing with our people and many strangers...I was so tuckered out! It was fun!
Good luck!!!
These are the Moments by Edwin McCain
we didn't have a wedding dance, but our theme song was 'we've only just begun' by the carpenters, which is kind of funny because we'd already lived together for 4 years. :) i love 'annie's song' by john denver- in fact, i love it so much that if we ever rededicate, it will probably be part of it. since you're so young and lusty, 'still you turn me on' by emerson lake and palmer would be good. 'for emily' by simon and garfunkel is heart-stoppingly beautiful.

Mine and my husband's song was "At Last" by Etta James. My husband and I were together almost 7 years before we got married so I figured it was appropriate. ;) For me and my dad it was "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. I always liked that song when I was a teenager and since it is sung by a father daughter duet of sorts, I figured, appropriate. "Butterfly Kisses" is sung by Bob Carlisle.
It really depends on what genre of music you prefer. My hubby is a cowboy so we had a country song. I can come up with a dozen or more of those if you need!
Our Father-Daughter dance was "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn. I danced with my dad and my hubby danced with his daughter.
We did country, but we almost used Lifehouse's You and Me. It's more of a slow rock ballad.
Go to Lyrics.com to get the lyrics for the songs listed below and also you can search Butterfly Kisses and find out who sings it.
Butterfly Kisses is by Bob Carlise - sorry I didn't read the other responses I'm sure someone already answered
My hubby and I danced to "God only knows" by the Beach Boys. It was fun and cute and short - we loved it.
I walked down the isle to ''Running'' by No doubt, My hubby is really shy. So, dancing in front of people was not going to happen. so I made sure that the song I had playing walking down the isle was super mush!! and that pretty much sums up how we feel about each other and our love for each other!!
Good luck lady!!! Whatever you choose will be awesome ;) Social D is not really a bad idea BTW!!!
''Skin thin'' by Ben harper is pretty too!! it is on my fav list right now it has a calming melody you can nod your head to softly
Just saw your "no country" statement, so I'm somewhat at a loss. Our wedding song was "All We'll Ever Find" by Tim McGraw and my father and I danced to a song called "I Loved Her First" by Heartland (so so country, but not a dry eye in the place!). If you've never heard it, give it a try.
Some of my favorites that I've seen-
- Just the Way You Look Tonight
- Wonderful World (my husband danced to this with his mother)
- Can't Help Falling In Love with You (Elvis)
- It Had to be You (Harry Connick Jr)
We did "Love is All Around" by Wet wet wet. It was on the "Four Weddings and a Funeral" soundtrack. We are NOT good dancers and the beat was easy to slow dance to. My dad and I danced to an upbeat Jimmy Buffet song called "Love and Luck." He picked that song out himself and I always tear up when I hear it even though it's a happy song. Let us know what you go with!! All of us on this website have been having fun reading about your wedding plans.
Mine & my husbands song is "I Just Can't Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis Presley. But the song suits us. We actually had guests tear up at the reception when that song came on.
Other ideas:
I Honestly Love You - Olivia Newton John
Everything I Do - Bryan Adams
Can I Have This Dance - Anne Murray
Open Arms - Journey (Mariah Carey did a pretty rendition too)
Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers
Songs with your dad:
Butterfly Kisses - Bob Carlisle
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
Good luck picking your songs & congrats!

This is the song we used. We found it on a movie one night and fell in love with it. My hubby picked it out and then replayed that part of the movie for me to listen to it too. It is nice and short.
This is not your typical song either. I bet you have never heard it at a wedding.
My husband and I had Almost Paradise (footloose soundtrack LOL) but I heard it one day, and literally got teary. It was SO us!!!! Butterfly kisses is country BTW Can't remember who sings it, just google the title.
I agree, Can I have this dance is a beautiful song. Doesnt sound too country!
I also love "The Sweetest Thing" can't remember who sings it, it's an oldie. Have fun and congrats :)
My husband and I danced to At Last by Etta James... beautiful! Time in a Bottle is by Jim Croce... another great one, but my song for my parents was Sunrise, Sunset from the musical Fiddler on the Roof. I know you said no country, but I think Butterfly Kisses is by Kenny Chesney or someone... pretty sure it's country. When I danced with my dad, it was Stevie Wonder's You are the Sunshine of My Life. Good luck.
In My Life--the Beatles. A timeless classic.
We had "Say You'll Love Me" from Phantom of the Opera, and What a Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong for father/daughter.
Our 1st dance was Led Zeppelin's Thank You.
We used "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol for our first dance. My husband suggested it - he's more edgy and into music than I am, which is why it is kind of out of left field. But it was perfect for us. I used "Your Song" by Elton John for my father:daughter dance. I've been wanting to use it since I was a teenager, so I don't have any other suggestions for you :)
Other ideas we had for our first dance:
"True Companion" by Marc Cohn
"Do You Believe in Love" by Huey Lewis and the News (there is a slow version - check Itunes)
"The Way you Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra
"The Scientist" by Coldplay (though it seems to me more of a breakup song?)
"Yellow" by Coldplay
"Bless the Broken Road" by Selah (NOT a country version)
On second thought - a suggestion for a father:daughter dance is "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman. I cry everytime I hear it.
Let us know what you decide!
We danced to "Annie's Song" by John Denver. Our runner up was "Open Arms" by Journey
My dad & I and he and his mom danced to "I Hope You Dance." I think it's by Lee Ann Womak?
Just Breath-Pearl Jam?
Have you heard this one? It is beautiful!
Not sure about the Father/Daughter song? My Dad's song for me was "Brown Eyed Girl" :)
Seriously... "In spite of ourselves" is the best song ever! LOL
Bryan Adams has a few great songs for weddings
80's love songs are great... Inspiration (I think Chicago does it) is a lovely song..
I dont listen to new music much, so I dont know if there are newer songs that are good
Google love songs/ wedding songs
duh, I read it wrong, I thought it was your 1st dance song! I now have time in a bottle playing in my head, it was one of my moms favorite songs :)
We did "Fields of Gold" by Sting. Loved it. A friend of mine did "Georgia" by Ray Charles which was really pretty. Also that "Over the Rainbow" version by the Hawaii guy is hugely popular but really pretty.. Israel Kandiongongshehe-something-or-other. :) Oh and Time in Bottle is Jim Croce.. probably spelling his name wrong though :) Croche?
When You Love Someone by Bryan Adams, it is on the Hope Floats soundtrack
We danced to Rod Stewart's Have I Told You Lately. When my parents got married they had someone sing There Is Love (The Wedding Song) by Paul Stookey so during our wedding my cousin sang that for us. My dad and I danced to Daddy's Angel. It's a song he found on You Tube. It was written by T Carter Music. It's got great words. I also really like Paul Simon's Father and Daughter, it's just a little fast for my dad!
Our wedding song was "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica :o)
My wedding song was "All my life" by Kasey & Jojo...
I love that song... thanks for the stroll down memory lane... ; )
Congratulations!!
My husband and I danced to Amazed by LoneStar. It's a country group BUT the song is not country. I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it. Good luck!
"Brighter than Sunshine", by Aqualung
"The Promise" by Tracy Champman (what we played during the pouring of the sand)
When our vows were over, we walked out to "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure
We went with Frank Sinatra type songs ( I had a jazz band there to play)
"What a Wonderful World"
Ours was "Something Special" by Randy Newman...very hard to find. It plays at the end of the movie Overboard, the lyrics are just...us!
Didn't read all the responses to see if it was mentioned but our song was True Companion by Marc Cohen. The duet of Unforgettable by nat king Cole and his daughter?
We did a waltz for our first dance (DH was a dancer in his earlier life). For our last dance we chose Van Morrison's "Someone like you." I am a huge Van fan and this song was just perfect.
I am glad you asked this question because I just listened to it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIrJK19dADI
and I almost started to cry because it made me remember that dance and because it made me realize how crazy in love with my husband I am after 17 years. That might very well be the test of a great wedding dance song.
If you want old school, go with this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pxs3jGy9k9w
Ray Charles, "Come Rain or Come Shine"
Hi sorry for chiming in late. For our 1st dance we had Girl from Ipamena - it's such a beautiful song. The funny thing is actually about a guy who falls in love with a girl from afar and then she doesn't see him because she's just looking at the sea instead of seeing him when she passes. BUT everyone at our wedding talked about how our first song totally set the mood - and our reception was pretty much everyone dancing (300 people) for the whole time!!
For my song with my dad we did do butterfly kisses, because he wanted to...then he totally shocked me. As we were walking off the dance floor, Brick House started playing...he had asked the dj to play that after butterfly kisses. So we had this really sweet dance, then started totally grooving out to Brick House! Actually maybe THAT'S why everyone danced the whole reception! People still talk about the Brick House thing and we got married 8 years ago. :)
Marry Me: by Train~ GREAT SONG or
I'll Stand By You : by the Pretenders Classic - Great Song
lyrics for Marry Me:
Forever can never be long enough for me
Feel like I've had long enough with you
Forget the world now we won't let them see
But there's one thing left to do
Now that the weight has lifted
Love has surely shifted my way
Marry Me
Today and every day
Marry Me
If I ever get the nerve to say
Hello in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Together can never be close enough for me
Feel like I am close enough to you
You wear white and I'll wear out the words I love
And you're beautiful
Now that the wait is over
And love and has finally shown her my way
Marry me
Today and every day
If I ever get the nerve to say hello in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Promise me
You'll always be
Happy by my side
I promise to
Sing to you
When all the music dies
And marry me
Today and everyday
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say hello in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Marry me
Mm-hmm
We did Seal's Kiss from a Rose for us, Butterfly kisses for daddy dance (but it's LONG so you may want to just to part of it) and Sunrise/Sunset for Hubby and mom. It was quite nice.
And for fun - we also had a wedding party song - "if you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife..." LOL :)
@ N.F. - The suggestion of "Just Like Heaven" is awesome!! Wish we'd thought of that. What a great song!
Anyway, we had "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys, although I was really fighting for "Vindicated" by Dashboard Confessional. It was off the Spider-man 2 soundtrack and we had Spidey and M.J. on our wedding cake and on our favors :-)
I chose "Winter" by Tori Amos as my song with my dad. It was great, but I had never noticed how LONG it was. It's like 5 min. long. DH and his mom danced to "In My Life" by the Beatles.
My one big suggestion: I don't know if you and your husband are good dancers, but we went to a wedding last summer where the bride really thought a lot of herself as a dancer and she had the DJ reserve the floor for just her and her wedding party for like a half an hour so they could dance by themselves. It got really boring watching 8 people dance for half an hour and I can imagine her parents were a bit annoyed by how much alcohol we guests consumed during that time! So I suggest you keep in mind that, while guests may remember how beautiful you looked or how nice the flowers were or how good (or bad) the food was, what they'll really remember was if they had a good time. If you remember that the reception is all about celebrating and enjoying yourselves, nothing will phase you.
