My mom lives in Texas so we want to start skyping so she can see the kids more. I tried looking at online reviews but they all seem so mixed. We don't want to spend more than 20-30 for the cam, what kind did you get and what do you like about it?

What can I do next?

We have a Logitech. Says on the camera that it's 2 Megapixels. But I think it cost more like $50. Paying less than that, you will get a poor-quality video. One thing I like about mine is that I can zoom in, zoom out, have the camera follow my head so if I swivel around, it'll keep my head in the middle of the camera. There are also filters on there, so I can put a crown on my head or an arrow thru my head and the person on the other side will see it too.

My parents spen $20 on their webcam and have NONE of the options I named above.

We have a couple of Logitech Quickcam's that were reasonably priced and very easy to use.

The only reason we are not using them now is that our laptops have one built in and they are Logitech as well.

Never any issues with Logitech for us.

I have a creative labs camera, it sits on top of my flat screen monitor. It works great and I think it was fairly cheap. I think more important than the camera is your internet connection. It doesn't matter how good the camera is if you are choppy on it. The screen can look good and the picture be choppy. I hope that makes sense.

If you don't have one in your computer I highly recommend a Logitech. We use ours on a weekly basis with family and you are going to want one with good quality. Otherwise it kind of defeats the point of her being able to see the kids.

Just stop in at a Best Buy or Target and get one for $20 or less. As others have said, the quality of your Internet connection is more important than the camera. I Skype all the time and have good or not as good picture quality depending on the internet traffic at the time. I had a $15 Logitec one, and now the webcam is built into my new laptop - same results.

Your mom and kids will enjoy the ability to see and talk with each other even if the picture isn't perfect.
