Wearing a Backless Dress When You HAVE to Wear a Bra...

Ok, I'm not sure the best way to ask this other than to just come out and say it.

I've given birth to four kids. I've nursed three of them. My breasts have seen better days. They're saggy and sorta deflated. I've been hoping to get a breast lift/augmentation to make them look good again, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I digress...

I've been looking for dresses for a holiday party my husband and I are attending. It's a semi-formal/formal event. I've found several dresses I absolutely love...but they're backless, or nearly backless. I can't wear a bra under them. Anyone know of a bra, breast lifter thing that will allow me to wear one of these dresses without tripping over my boobs? Or should I just look for another dress?

What can I do next?

Google backless bustier. All depart stores have them, not to mention bridal stores. They come in all sizes, not just for skinny b* with A-cups. :-)
My SIL wore one with her wedding dress. She was a size 18W wedding dress.

Nearly backless is do-able! They make bras where the strap literally sits at or below your waist, sucks in everything up front, and lifts the ladies!!

Best place to ask: a bridal boutique. They have every bra imaginable and specialize in fitting you with a bra for 'that dress'.

Good luck!!

Take the dress or dresses with you to Victoria's Secret. They are the experts in this area and will be able to reccomend something. Have fun at your party, I wish my hubby's work did them. I really miss them.

there are all kinds of bras for halter tops, strappless and other alternatives to just a bra. like pasties or strapless bras that are just the cup. but i doubt those are going to offer some real woman boobies any support. you can buy a bra that goes way down your back for deep cut dresses. there are all kinds of designer dresses out there i am sure you can find a bra that is not the traditional straps over the sholder or racer back bra. good luck. have fun at your event.

Backless dresses are not just for skinny b_tches. Large or small, your back can be a beautiful feature if you wear the right dress. Any bridal store will have the backless bra with hydraulic lifters. It has boning and underwires and you cannot see it in a backless dress. It starts at your waist. That will do the trick. My goofy and well endowed sister said "duct tape" tongue in cheek of course. I know Victoria's Secret and Frederick's have convertible bras. Buy a bra and go back less!!!! Don't forget to dust a tiny bit of iridescent (sp.) powder along your backbone. Have fun at your party!

You have a couple of options: If you can purchase the dress and be able to return it. Take it to a fabric store and talk to a seamstress. She may know of a way you can make a lace insert for the back. If you use a contrasting fabric you won't have to worry about matching the color and then wear shoes and maybe a belt to go with the contrasting fabric. If you don't sew she may know someone who can fix it for you for a nominal fee. If the insert idea won't work a fabric store may have sew-in bras.

Or go to Penney's with the dress and talk to a bra fitter. Penney's has silicone strapless backless bras that stick on and are re-useable. The cost on these is about $60. I have never used one but have talked to women who did and they said they are very comfortable and work really well. Penney's also has convertible bras in their online store. These bras come with extensions that lengthen the back strap so you can pull it down to the waist and wrap the strap around your waist and hook in front, they usually have removable straps.

There are so many bra choices for backless or nearly backless dresses. I don't think you have tried them all.

It also may help to make your breasts look better by building up the chest muscles by doing some push ups from the floor or push outs from a wall. I know this helped me tremendously.

I found a bra where the straps go around the arms only but gave great lift even without a back. Bridal shops have some great bras and so will places like JC Penny, Macy's and my personal favorite Fredricks of Hollywood.

I bought my bra for my wedding dress at a bridal boutique. It was a pretty penny. I promptly saw similar ones at Target 3 weeks later. GRRR. Take the dress with you, when you try on bras. (Also, I am a DD cup. So...they definitely work for larger cups.)

I know in Oklahoma there are several places that sell good quality undergarments. They measure you and fit you all in the same day. I think that looking at places like Penney's or Walmart is not going to give you the diversity you need, or support. I find good support bras at Lane Bryant but the catalog is where you can find more selection.

I added some links to different kinds of bras that might work. One of formal dresses had a big keyhole cutout in the back and I wore a strapless bra that was very very very low cut in the back. I wore a 38DDD at the time and it looked "VA VA VOOM" according to my hubby.

Much like the 6th one down on the right, the Va Bien 6363.

I can't wear backless dresses either. I always get a really pretty shrug/jacket to wear over it.
