Hi. Does anyone have a successful plan with weaning baby off the bottle? I am trying to get my almost 14 month old off the bottle. I just started today. I planed on replacing morning bottle with sippy cup of milk. Then work my way each week to nap bottle and eventually night bottle. She didn't fuss too much not getting the bottle, but didn't want to drink the milk out of the sippy cup. She's never held her bottle and I never let her walk around with it so she doesn't have any attachment to it, but she does know that the milk is supposed to be "in" the bottle! She's a water baby and only likes water in her cup. She doesn't like juice.(less sugar and my dr's happy bout that, but the downside is, is that she only expects water to be in the cup!) I'm going to keep offering her the milk in the cup, but if anyone has a success story to share and give me some ideas, it is most welcome! Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

Hey K....
My daughter Katelyn refused her bottle at 9months so we went to a sippy cup, shes now 2 (as of last week) and has been on straw cups since about 15months (we give her regular open cups but water only since shes still a bit clumsy lol) but my little cousin is 2yrs old and still on a bottle... I think when they're ready they drop it on their own... but you're helping the decision by the steps that you're taking which is good... just keep offering it leave it around (not long enough for it to spoil but you know what i mean) she ust might surprise you and walk up with the sippy ... =o)

I raised three children and all were different when it came to the bottle. I had a harder time with two of them with the pacifier than the bottle. My middle child was the hardest to get off the bottle. However, my children had both water and formula and then milk in their bottles so they were more receptive to the sippy cups. I knew a mother who started with diluted milk in the sippy cup. She used fat-free milk and added water to it and gradually decreased the water. It took time and eventually she accepted the milk in the cup.

Now, I am a bit old fashioned and I personally think that maybe at 14 months your daughter may not be ready. I did not begin to wean mine until 18 months. Every child is different when it comes to change and usually you will know when they are ready. Just because someone else's child was 14 months old and off the bottle doesn't necessarily mean your daughter is ready at that age.

Have you talked about this with your peditrician? I would suggest you do that as well.

My son is a year and has the exact problem. He knows water comes from the sippy cup and Milk from the bottle. Have you tried a real cup, like one you would use? I dont let my son hold it but he seems to be ok with the milk from "mommy's" cup idea. Also as you slowly ween try having her throw a bottle away and say "Bottle go bye-bye, no more". My sisters child responded to this very well and seemed to understand that if it went in the trash she didnt want it anymore. Hope this helps

it is very common for babies to not want milk in a cup according to our ped. she had told me at our 9 month check up (my son is now 16 months) to start trying. he had been drinking juice, diluted with water, from a cup since 6 months. so i started trying every day. he didn't want anything to do with it. finally after trying several different types of cups, i gave him one and he did it and the bottles went away that day. i had already gotten him away from them before naps so there was no need for them at all. he was 11 months. so just keep trying, use different cups and she will eventually do it.
