Hi All

I am wondering what the experiences are of others who may have tried this or know what I should expect even though this probably depends on the individual but I would like to know suggestions and etc. My DD is 13 months and I decided to start weaning her so I decided to start with her naptime session because she now only nurses at naptime and maybe around 4p or so. The first day I took away the naptime session and she did not seem interested in nursing for the rest of the day until bedtime which is around 630pm or 700p which means I have went without nursing the last two days for almost 11 hours because the last time she nursed is at morning wake at 730a. I still plan to continue nursing her to sleep as well as through the night, but I am wondering if my supply will decrease due to me going such a long time without nursing during the day? Thanks in advance for your help!

K.

your body will adjust..

I am nursing my son 15 months...

he nurses morning (7am), before nap (12 noon) and at bedtime 730 pm.

At his age nursing is not really about nutrition. it is comfort and relaxation. It helps them be still long enough to relax and fall asleep.

your supply may decrease but it will be enough for the baby.

if she wants more she will nurse for a longer period of time.

Yes it will deplete but at one you can give them milk. You can stop. Usually when they are doing it around bedtime it is for comfort not for nutrition. Good luck. Good work keeping it up for so long.

My daughter (15m) always nurses before bedtime, 1x/night and usually before her afternoon nap. Recently, with teething, she's upped her nursing to sometimes 5x/day! My body/milk supply seems to adapt just fine. Granted, if she nurses a lot one day, then decides to only nurse our usual # the next day, I feel a bit more full. But, then by the next day, I even back out. I was worried a bit like you at first, however, even when I swear I have nothing left for her to 'drink' she will suck away contently. I've learned to trust my body and all seems to be well. Best of luck!

ditto to what the other responders said. Your body adjusts pretty quickly. You WANT your milk supply to go down, which is why you're weaning her! You'll have exactly what you need for your baby if you're feeding her morning and night (of course, provided you're giving her whole milk during the day now, too!).

Good for you and congrats for nursing for a year!
