Much thanks to all the moms who responded to my last post. I just wanted to update eveyone. Since my first post, I have had 3 doctor visits. My doctor is keeping an eye one my pregnancy bloodwork, she says that for 6 1/2 weeks along, that the levels are too low. The three readings are as follows 25,125,182, which they should be more like 1000 or higher by now. She sent addtional labs off yesterday hoping to get those results today, which will check my progestone levels to see if they are low. She explained to me that it is 50/50 that I may miscarry with this baby. And that if my progestrone levels come back low today, that it is proably not a healthy preganancy and my body will know what to do, which is miscarry. This waiting is just killing me.... I have also read online where other women say this happened to them and their doctors gave the progestrone pills/injections/etc to support the pregnancy. Some of those pregnancies were saved, some were not. I am wondering if I should take my docotr's advise and "wait and see" or if she should be more proactive and prescribe the hormone just incase. I have never been through this so I am so confused about what to do... Thanks in advance for any help.

I had this exact thing happen to me. It is absolutely heartwrenching because you can't allow yourself to get excited. The daily visits to the obgyn and blood results are excruciating. Stay positive and pray. If this baby is meant to be, he or she will be here. We ended up losing ours at about 9 weeks, but got pregnant with our second child the next month! So, there was a happy ending. THis is a very hard time for you and just know you are in our prayers.

I don't have any advice, just letting you know I'm thinking of you. This has to be so hard on you (I couldn't imagine the worry & wait), but make sure you try to rest, take it easy. If you're stressed it won't help. I hope everything works out for you.

Most women, according to the literature i have read, are very deficient in progesterone anyway. You are not going to do anything but help your body to use the progesterone. I would be more inclined to use a bioidentical rather than a synthetic, but that is for you to get educated on (Book recomeendation: Ageless). If the problem is in your body and you can correct that assisting with progesterone, there are no down sides and many, many, advantages. Maybe it will help the pregnancy as well. Hoping for you, J

Hello S.!

I will say upfront that I have NO personal experience with your position (nor have I had a miscarriage), but if you are looking for the opinions of mamasource mamas, mine is that pregnancy is a natural thing. I personally feel strongly that miscarriages happen for a reason (whether we know that reason or not), and after the heartache has subsided, we try again and are eventually rewarded with a healthy baby.

However, if you are one to help something along (and there's nothing wrong with that!), then by all means speak up and ask your doctor for the pills that you want. Doctors can advise you of all your options, but if you know of options that are available that your doctor DIDN'T discuss, you should definitely speak up. You might also consider another doctor (if your current one is resistant to methods other than what she prescribes).

So, you need to decide for yourself what you want to do with your pregnancy (congrats!!! by the way!), and then you need to speak up and be open but firm in your discussion with your doctor. They have knowledge we don't, but no one doctor is the end-all-be-all answer to medical and ethical dilemmas. Some decisions should only be made by the patient.

I certainly wish you the best of luck, and do PLEASE keep us all informed of your decision, and of how your pregancy progresses.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this! It's my personal opinion that I would let my body handle it. However, I don't know your personal and detailed medical history, so I don't know if you're someone who has difficulty carrying pregnancies and has miscarried before, or if you've had fertility issues trying to get pregnant. If NOT, I would let my body do its own thing and if you miscarry, you miscarry. I'm not trying to be callous, but in many cases miscarriages are natures way of saying that something was just not quite right with the pregnancy. It is different if you have a problem like I alluded to before, and many women do, so if that's the case I would request the hormone injections.

Hi,
I had the same thing happen to me at about 6 weeks. I had midwives and they immediately put me on high doses of progesterone right away. It saved my pregnancy. I know how you feel. That wait is awful. Also I have had a miscarriage too and I knew in my gut that something wasnt right so your instinct also is a sign. Out of nowhere, I just didnt feel pregnant anymore. Little did I know, I wasnt. But with my last baby that I almost lost I just knew everything was okay even though all the signs were bad and it all turned out okay. I will tell you, progesterone makes you feel awful so if they put you on it be aware. I felt fluish for weeks.
I would think you should be on progesterone right away unless she knows something you dont like perhaps your levels are just too low and she may know that you will probably miscarry. I would ask her to put you on it or if not, why she isnt putting you on it just to see what she says??
Goodluck, I really do know your pain and I will tell you nature is in control here and that was a hard thing for me to accept.
Sending you good strong baby vibes!!!

I am so very sorry say that if you are really 6 weeks pregnant those HCG levels are very low and not increasing at the expected rate. Sadly it is very unlikely that progesterone will help. I know the waiting is sad and difficult but you and your doctor want to be sure about what is happening. I wish I could be more encouoraging

I would go with what your doctor says. Progesterone doesn't always work, and your blood levels are very low. Sometimes your body knows this isn't a healthy pregnancy, and that's why you miscarry. I know that doesn't make it any easier, but it's nature's way. I have several friends who have been through the same, and the progesterone didn't work. I'm sorry. I'm sure it's very difficult.

I sort of went through the same thing in April. I was five weeks pregnant and they offered me hormones to "help" the pregnancy. I opted not to do the hormones and I actually wound up having a miscarriage. It was the right choice, for me, to let nature takes its course. I am thankful for that experience. My husband and I learned how strong we are. For a few months I didn't want to fathom getting pregnant again. Now I am three months along and everything is going well. I'm not trying to persuade your decision either way. Just take all options into account and realize either way it will take a toll on you physically and emotionally. Best of luck.
