Yesterday morning the apartment above mine burnt down. Lucky I woke up when I heard a window break (because of the heat ) I got my daughter and myself out safely but our apartment is destroyed. My husband and I used almost all the money in savings and went and put the deposit and first months rent on a new places but we are still left with out STUFF We have a 15 mo that need clothes she wears size 24 months or 2 t and we also have a 6 year old and 8 year old that need clothes also my husband and I. If anyone knows of any organizations that can help us or knows anyone that has some extra clothes they are willing to donate to my family please let me know. Red cross has helped with inflatable mattress but have not helped with clothes b/c after the fire they did a walk though of our apartment and said that our clothes were only water and smoked damaged. But the city will not allow anyone in the apartments to get anything out. They are saying it will be at least a week to two weeks till anyone can go in there to get anything out. By then ALL of our clothes and furniture will be ruined with mold from the water that it is sitting in. If anyone can help us or knows an organization can PLEASE get back with me.

What can I do next?

I am so sorry to hear that I will be praying for your family. I just gave away all my 24 month old clothes, but they were all summer clothes so it probably would not have helped. My son is only 12 months so I couldn't help there either. Have you tried calling the Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth. My church works with them often and they have a huge supply of clothes. Sorry I could not be of more help.

I have always heard of Catholic Charities. I am not sure where they are, but any Catholic church could help you. Praise the Lord that your family is all OK. I will keep you in my prayers that all works out well for you and your family.

S.,
What are there sizes? I have boys! Sorry. I would check with your school's counselor. They have many different resources. Our church in Grand Prairie, supplies a lot of needs through the counselors. I understand what you are saying about those clothes. My house burned 12 years ago. It didn't burn to the ground, but 95% of the clothes were ruined due to smoke. And we were able to get into the house five days after. If they sit for more than a week there will be no way. I would say this to you. If you have special blankets, or clothes. Like the kids first anything, take them to the cleaners and then put them in a display case. The cleaners can get a lot of it out, but it will most likely still have a slight odor. That is what made me sick. A lot of our clothes didn't look ruined, but we could not get the smell out of anything. I will check around here and see if I can find anything out. I will email you if I find anything.

Where in Ft Worth do you live? I have 2 girls- ages 2 and 6- I may have a few extra things around here. (I get rid of my stuff pretty quickly when they outgrow it) What sizes do you need? I will look around and see if I can help!

I'm not sure where you are located, but Mission Arlington can certainly help you. Just let them know your situation and they will do what they can for you. Tillie Burgin, who runs Mission Arlington is a great, great person. I will say that normally the mission tries to stay within the confines of Arlington, but they will help residents outside of Arlington as well. Please give them the opportunity to be blessed by helping you and your family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

I had a friend who had this happen to her last year. i went to Target and got some things for her and while I was checking out and telling the cashier what happpened she told me that if you call the Target main offices and let them know your situation they will usually help out by giving you a gift card to use in the store. My friend had already got enoug stuff so she did not call. I don't have the number but you should be able to find it on the website. Hopefully that helps.
