Watery and Frequent Poops... Should I Be Worried?

My 14 month old son has been averaging about 4-5 bowel movements a day since Monday with most of them being on the watery end (not completely liquid but much mushier and runnier than normal). He's not vomiting and his appetite is normal and he's not showing signs of dehyrdation. He does have a bad diaper rash though. Any idea what could be causing this? Should I be worried or just wait it out? I can't think of any new foods he's had except for potato salad which my MIL made (don't know exactly what was in there) but that was on Sunday night... could it really be lasting this long in his tummy?? Thanks for any insight...

What can I do next?

It might be teething. My son's poo always got a little "loose" when he was teething. Give him a banana every day.

My 13 month old went through this too, he had his first normal BM yesterday again. Don't give up on the fiber, it will normalize his BM's not hurt, as long as he's getting the amount he needs. The secret about constipation is you can have diarrhea and be constipated, yes that sounds counter to what it should be, but there could be a blockage and only the watery part is getting through! We just had my granddaughter to the ER, she couldn't walk, x-rays showed a huge amount of BM in an area of her bowels, she had to have an enema and we've since learned that they can even have normal movements and have this problem.
I personally think there is a bug going around, several people in my family has had diarrhea and vomiting, the youngest only having the diarrhea, the one's in diapers are having very bad diaper rash to the point of having doctor prescribe a med for this. SIL works in hospital and it is full of people with this malady, don't blame MIL (we tried blaming my mother, but no). Give it a few days, make sure he's well hydrated, bottoms taken care of then call the doctor if you feel the need. For your future information food irritation can show up as long as two weeks after the food is eaten, allergy or food poisoning, it depends on what else is in your system or what else is interacting with it.

my daughter is going through the same thing shes 13 months. I am chalking it up to the heat. If he has no fever and is otherwise normal dont be too concerned. I would back off on the fruit and high fiber items. I have her drinking pedialyte but watered down and have been giving her yogurt to get the good bacteria in her gut. as for the diaper rash give him a bath everyday let him have somw naked baby time to air it out and slather up dessitine (sp) that stuff works great. gl

My son was just like this last month. I second the idea of a but because that is what he and the rest of my family had. It lasted the weekend and then he got bad constipation for 3 days then got 'normal' (we just figured out that he has formula allergys and are trying to figure which is best for him. He usually had loose gel like stools) and then a week later he got a really bad ear infection. Soooo. ..I say wade it out a bit, but if it doesn't get better take him in. My docotrs office keeps telling me to wait 2 weeks. . . yeah you wait two weeks and clean up all the blow outs! I took him in after a week.

It could be the stomach flu. The stomach flu is not always throwing up. It can also be diarrhea. My two yr old had it last month, it lasted a wk.
