Waterslide Vs. Basic Above Ground Pool (Those Blue Ones with a Ladder)

So my 5 year old daughter really wants a waterslide for her birthday. But they are VERY expenive. Like $500. For that, we could get one of those easy to assemble pools with a filter that my husband and I can enjoy as well.

Does anyone have experience with either? I'm afraid that the waterslide will rip easily and that will be $500 down the drain.

What do you ladies recommend?

Thanks - and Happy Mother's Day in advance!!

that is a tough one. I think I would rather the pool too, the slide isn't very universal and she most likely will get bored with it.

Why not get the pool (if you are willing to spend that kind of money) and then also get a slip-n-slide? They are just as much fun!

I think the pool is more versatile....and unless it's a really sturdy water slide--they can really be hard to keep up, keep the sprinkler aimed at the right spot, etc....JMO.

I vote for the pool with the filter. There are even some with a vacuum. We had one of those blow up pools that's about 6x10 or so. We had to change out the water pretty often because of grass/dirt/bugs. And I had to scrub it each time to keep the slime away. Yuck! Lots of work. If the slide you are talking about has the little pool area at the bottom, keeping it clean will be a pain in the neck. We have thought about getting one of those pools you are talking about but I worry about how sturdy they are. I hope someone gives you input on that.

Well... Growing up we had a normal slide, and we used to just tie the hose to the top so we made our own water slide. lol. You could take it a step further, and buy a slip n' slide, and just jury rig it to the bottom of a normal slide so the sprinkers spray up and over the slides... then buy a pool! lol. We had some friends who had a free standing pool... we set it up next to their deck and rigged up a slide so that you could slide into the pool. THAT was fun!!

We got a 15x4ft pool last year (From Wal-Mart). It was the best decision we ever made! We were in the pool every day! Both our girls, 4 and 7, Love it as well. We got the one w/metal pipe framing, not the blow up one. It came w/a filter and we got a vacuum for it (very inexpensive.) We left it up all winter (we live near Buffalo NY!) and it did great! No problems! So, my vote is for pool! I think it's a much better investment! :)
