They are looking for washable markers, water based, the Crayola ones would be just fine.

I just received the "back to school" list for my daughter. The only thing "required" is watercolor markers. I know there are different brands of markers, most common being Crayola. I looked around today and didn't see anything that said "watercolor" markers. Are they just regular Crayola markers? I did a search for them and all I was shown were normal crayola markers. There was nothing printed on the box that stated watercolor. Is there something specific I should be looking for? Is there something specific that separated "watercolor" from regular markers? I know there are "washable" markers but I don't know if that makes them watercolor. I know this is a stupid question but I guess I have just been out of school too long.
Thank you for your responses. That was the conclusion I was beginning to come to as well but as my daughter tells me, "You don't know everything." Typical kid right? Thanks again, I did purchase the washable markers.

I had the same item on my son's list. I got "Mr. Sketch watercolor markers at Staples they were about 7.00 dollars. Hope that helps.
Watercolor markers are an art supply. Tryhobby Lobby, Micheals or maybe even a big Walmart in their craft department. they have been around a long time and have a brush like point. As a teacher though, i have used Washable Crayolas for watercolor paitinings as they bleed too. So just get those if youcan't figure it out.
K.,
I googled it, and here they are:

You have plenty of time to buy them online, and find the cheapest deal, without worrying about walking from store to store.
They are different yes.
The are nicer to use for painting-drawing
like explained, for example, here:

Washable may be watercolor, OR NOT!
Probably, the teacher has some ideas in her mind
and she/he wants the students to get the most fun and best results of the exercises that are already planned.
Asking in the store may help and may not, they might not know these specifics either, except for maybe at Michaels, where they sell art-tools...
good luck, have fun: you and your dear daughter!!!
Just call the school and ask! No sense in getting the wrong thing and having to take it back, just get clarification from the source!
Watercolor and washable markers are the same thing. I swear the list of school supplies gets longer every year! :)
Anything labeled "washable".
Hi K.!
I am pretty sure that the ladies who responded are correct in that the teacher meant washable markers.. But as an artist I will let you know there is such thing as a watercolor marker, they can be expensive but their purpose is to able to be blended and they do not go through paper like a regular marker does. Prang makes a "school" one that is fairly cheap I have a set that I spent a ton of money on... http://www.instawares.com/prang-watercolor-markers-conica... Good luck with your shopping!
