Water Heater Always Going Out

We have a gas water heater in the house we rent. The darn thing is always going out. Usually it's at least twice a week that someone gets a cold shower. Does it need replaced? It happens more when it's windy out so I think it's being blown out.

What can I do next?

Water heaters usually only last about 5-7 years so if its older than that and having trouble then you need a new one.

Have you talked to the landlord? Sounds like it is an issue he/she should take care of. How old is the house?

It sounds like the pilot light is going out if it happens more when it is windy.

We just replaced our 2 gas water heaters and they are not cheap. Our house is just 8 yrs old.

Good luck, cold showers are no fun!

could be that it needs a new thermocoupler rather than complete replacement, but if it is really old then consider putting in a new one. this is a landlord issue unless your contract provides otherwise.
