We love the front loading washer and dryer. I would also suggest ABT they are wonderful there!
We are looking to purchase a new washing machine. I have heard some negative things regarding the front loading machines, so we are probably going to choose the simple top loading, white colored. Any suggestions on brands? Where is the best place to get a reliable, yet good deal product?

We had a front loading Neptune and it actually got recalled due to mold issues. We now have a front loading LG and everything is just fine. Bought it from Best Buy.
You can find sale listings (from the paper) on the Chicago Tribune's website www.shoplocal.com/chicagotribune. ConsumerSearch.com also aggregates reviews from mulutiple sites. And i've heard good things about www.krillion.com -- tells you where to find the washing machine once you've figured out which brand.
Good luck!

Actually my In Laws are selling their front loader Washing Machine and Dryer. The make is Maytag Neptune. They are two years old and just two big for just the two of them. They just purchased stackables and would like to sell their Maytag. They are asking 850.00 for both. I could get more information if you are interested. You are also welcome to look at them. The washing machine and dryer are available for viewing in Westchester, Illinois.

We have a front loader and love it! We have had no problems, plus it uses less water and detergent. I don't think everyone is aware that with a front loader you aren't supposed to use as much detergent- which could be why it feels like the clothes aren't getting rinsed.
I would definitely suggest going to Abt. We got a great deal on our super capacity Maytag W/D there and they price match and beat, plus also give you the best price they've advertised in the past 6 months. We bought several of our appliances there and it was great.
I've heard really good things about the wahsers (I think the Neptune by Maytag is one?) that don't have the full column agitator, but rather just the bottom plate that agitates. Gentler on your clothing.
Good luck in the hunt!
We have a front loader and will probably not get one again - I just don't feel like it gets the clothes as clean. Plus, we wash our own cloth diapers and have to run it through an extra wash because it does a bad job rinsing out all the soap. So I can't tell you where to get a good top-loader, but wanted to confirm that it's probably the better choice :)
Hi N.,
Regardless of what brand you choose, my advice it to price shop Home Depot, Sears and ABT. They will price match each other..I ended up saving a couple hundred dollars at ABT by showing them my lowest offer (Home Depot).
I like our front loaders but know some people don't...we have the Maytag Neptune series. The only problem I had was the dryer started sounding like a jackhammer one day. The maintenance guy found a sock had gotten shoved down the lint trap -it's on the bottom of the machine so something fell in when I took it out to clean it. Now I clean it before I put a load in the machine...problem solved. He wrote it up as a "warranty issue" so it didn't cost me anything - just a couple days w/o being able to do laundry. Next time I need a laundry break I'll shove another sock in there :-)
