Hi everyone, I just have a question about flat paint. We moved into our house three years ago and we are renting to own, our landlord painted the whole house in flat white. Under the paint he did the walls with that textured mud? My question is with three kids a dog and two cats how do we keep them clean? I have tried washing the finger prints and goo off the walls and the paint and the texture comes off with it. In some spots its down to the drywall :( The landlord told me that at the store they said this paint is "scrubbable" Yeah Right! So I was wondering short of repainting the whole house and making the kids and animals wear hazmat suits lol does anyone have suggestions for cleaning them and preventing future problems?

What can I do next?

Mr Clean magic erasers!!! They clean anything and I have used them on flat paint. Nothing else has ever worked until I found them. If you don't want to spend the $$ on them, Save a lot and dollar stores also have an off brand that does work great also.

I am with them!!! I recently put my house up for sale, and our walls are also flat paint. Those magic erasers are like little magic miracles! They even got the nicks off the walls the carpet guys put on! I did about 600 sq. feet with 1 magic eraser! They are a worthwhile investment for this project!

They always say flat paint is scrubbable and it isnt! We always use semigloss or satin in high fingerprint areas. You may be better off repainting...it'll save you time in the long run.

I hate to be negative, but flat paint is almost impossible to wipe clean. I am an avid painter and I would only put that on ceilings if I use it at all. Try vinegar and water and see if that works. Good luck!
