Warning, Tons of TMI!

This is going to get gross so you have been warned. I am trying to figure out what is going on with my system. For about a week I have been drinking apple cider vinegar, diluted in water (prob about 1 oz acv to 16 oz water). Saturday and Sunday I had a class so I ended up drinking coffee on an empty stomach and not eating until evening. On Monday and Tuesday I consumed a lot of enchilada sauce (I basically made a soup out of it, yes, I know I am a freak). On Tuesday I also ate a LOT of greens compared to what I am used to (I had an entire large bag of spinach and an entire one of those clear plastic boxes of mixed greens). On Tuesday night I had super watery diarrhea. Not bloody, just watery. I attributed it to the extra greens and too much enchilada sauce. After a few bouts of this between Tues night/Weds morning, things started solidifying up by Weds mid morning so I thought I was fine. Well not thinking that I needed to baby my stomach, I drank coffee that morning and didn't eat until noon at which time I ate about a half of a cup of candied orange peel. It might be relevant to add that I also began taking a mushroom supplement from my health practitioner on Monday and took it both Monday and Tuesday. I also take a curcumin extract and just switched to a "high potency" one on Monday. Well by Tuesday late afternoon I had full blown watery diarrhea every couple hours and the worst cramps in the middle of my stomach (right above the belly button) that you could ever imagine. I only ate 2 pieces of gluten free toast on Tues and some applesauce, broth and crackers yesterday. All day yesterday this continued and my period also started and happens to be the period from hell on top of this. I finally broke down and took an Imodium with anti gas last night because I couldn't take the stomach pain anymore. It helped so much and I was able to sleep last night without being awoken by cramps and diarrhea. Today my stomach feels a little "off" and I have had some light cramping but so far I have not had any more of the intense cramping and have not had diarrhea since last night (prob due to the Imodium). Just to add, these are not period cramps I am talking about, I have those too but these are much higher. I have continued to eat basically the BRAT diet. My question is, does this seem like a stomach virus or could I have irritated my stomach so badly with the vinegar, long periods of not eating, supplements etc that it would cause a 2 day period of extreme cramps/diarrhea? Those cramps were like nothing I had ever felt! I try to eat foods that are naturally gluten free (the gluten free bread is like a "treat") so I feel like my stomach gets that gnawing feeling at times because I generally do not have many carbs at all to kind of "soak up" the acid. My dr. thinks that I am gluten sensitive due to a zinc deficiency but this has never been confirmed. Obviously now I have been eating saltines so that is not gluten free. At what point can I start eating a little more normally? Has anyone ever been through something like this?

What can I do next?

Eat a balanced diet (gluten free if necessary). And what's up with the vinegar? Candied orange peel. How about starting out the day with two scrambled eggs and some other protein. Then a salad with veggies for lunch and some chicken. Dinner, fish/beef/chicken and veggies.

Start eating normally ASAP.

Just reading about what you are eating makes MY stomach sick! WHY are you drinking vinegar, even diluted, what is the point of that?
And consuming enchilada sauce like a soup, that's way too rich.
Then throwing in the high roughage greens?
Yikes!
I think you need to talk to a nutritionist, this just doesn't sound like a healthy way to eat, and I think your body is telling you that.

Your body is not designed to handle this AWFUL diet that you are putting it through! You need to eat regular, balanced meals! No wonder your intestines are screaming! You need to be nicer to yourself.

The answer to this is simple: eat NORMALLY. The things you are doing to your body with your strange eating habits are not healthy.

Three small meals a day, with a couple of snacks in between. Five food groups, with a mix of protein, carbs and fats. You should know what a healthy, normal meal looks like, if not join Weight Watchers.

By the way, why are you eating in this bizarre fashion? Is it to lose weight, or do you think it's good for you? It's not.

And any time your body is deprived of protein, it will "eat" your muscle to obtain it, so you will end up with less muscle, and more fat.

Time to adopt a normal diet.

That kind of diet would screw up anyone stomach! Try having a more balanced approach to your diet and see if that helps.
BTW, why are you eating gluten free? Are you gluten sensitive? If not, gluten free product have a tendency to be highly processed (not good for sensitive stomach), you're better off with regular bread, or just eliminating wheat altogether.

Oh my lord. No, I haven't personally but I know people who attempt to take drastic measures to lose weight.

You have messed up your whole digestive system. So, yes, it will take awhile for it to settle. I would keep up with the BRAT diet for as long as it takes. However, I am no Dr. I would STRONGLY encourage you to talk to your Physician and tell them exactly what happened. They will probably run tests, as well as to see if you are Gluten sensitive. I would also advice that you never try something like this again. Their are healthier ways to lose weight and be healthier without it wreaking havic on your poor body.

Why would your digestive system be operating normally if you eat the way you do? You change the ph of your system dramtically with vinegar, you add hot sauce, you add mushroom supplements (???) then you'll go hours without eating, then eat weird stuff. Your system operates best when it gets a balance of needed stuff every day. If you're going to be in class all day make a sandwich, bring an apple or banana, a bottle of water, etc. It doesn't take a lot of planning or time do do this. Efven a quinoa salad can be made ahead of time and packed into small containers in the fridge for consumption later int he week.

You don't have a stomach virus - you have a bad diet. Be nice to your body - you only have one.

coffee on an empty belly will screw up the majority of peoples tummy. Taking supplements on an empty bell will screw up the majority of peoples tummys. An entire bag of spinich well you get where Im going with this. Give your stomach a few more days to balance itself out and do things in moderation and at least eat something small while taking supplements.

You are probably detoxing, and that is compounded by the horrible combination of things you are eating. You've shocked your system and your body is "evacuating" all the bad stuff. Your body is cleaning itself of all the toxins stored in your tissues, but you've done it too fast and your body can't get rid of the bad things fast enough. I'm surprised you haven't also vomited.

You can't take all those types of things (like ACV and mushroom supplements) in such large quantities. You need to start slow! Your body is overloaded with toxins.

Get rid of the ACV and mushroom supplement. Take only ONE supplement, and cut back on the dosage.

Eat 6 small balanced meals a day. Eat a variety of things.

And go talk to your health practitioner about how to detox and diet in a HEALTHY manner.

Do you always do that? Is it a diet???Because if it is so, well... you should be very used to it???? If you don't do this often...then why did you do it...? Weight loss? Probably you may need to detox a little bit and eat nothing but water and herbal teas and see your doctor. Whether your are trying to lose weight or not this is not a safe way to eat...and there is no magical diet...just a healthy eating and exercise......
Take good care of yourself

Its no wonder your stomach is sick! Start slow with those types of things. Sounds like you overloaded your body and it didn't like it. Do the brat diet for a few weeks and then slowly start introducing one thing at a time. Don't drink coffee on a empty stomach. GL

My system would react with diarrhea if I ate like you did. At the same time there is a virus going on with a symptom being diarrhea. The way for you to find out which it is is to "baby" your stomach. Eat mild low fiber food and cut out the coffee. Even if it's a virus this sort of diet will help you to heal. Do not resume normal eating until the diarrhea is gone for several days. When you do resume eating regular foods do so in moderation. Treat your digestive system with respect.

Actually, you may not know which it is because the stomach virus can resolve it's self in a few days. It really doesn't matter which it is. What matters is how you treat it and you treat it the same for both conditions.

I doubt that the vinegar is a part of the problem. Vinegar helps with helping our stomach manage the acid. I don't know how it works. I suggest you look it up on the Internet to reassure yourself.

Coffee alone could be a part of the problem. Some people can't even drink coffee with food.

However, I suspect that your diet increased the pain and diarrhea that was already there from a virus.

And supplements do not usually cause a problem tho they could when you take them on an empty stomach. I suggest that you stop taking the supplements until you're healed. Then start each one alone for a few days before you start the next one. That way you can tell if the supplement doesn't agree with you.

If you have a virus you do not want to take Imodium or a similar product. The reason for the diarrhea is to get the virus out of your system.

I had diarrhea for weeks and finally went to the doctor. After a test, I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and was prescribed an antibiotic.

As to the gluten issue. If you haven't already been tested get tested. Eating gluten free can also mess up your system if you're not gluten intolerant.

Try a more balanced diet starting off each morning by actually eating some sort of protien for breakfast along with your coffee. Then continuing to eat throughout the day. My stomach would be doing the same if I ate as you described above.

Its your diet. I would think that the vinegar is contributing to the pooping issue. Start eating normal now but drink lots and lots of water. What is up with vinegar drink? Add some fruit to your diet.

I could see where your weird food habits could be contributed to period cravings if you get them.
