I think that she needs to have a full check up with an OB/GYN who will go in and take a look. I found that I had scarring on my tubes from Endometriosis and a case of PID that I got from my ex many many many years ago.
This doc told me that my tube, I only have one due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, was very inflexible and that getting pregnant the normal way would most likely be impossible. That if I wanted to use any other way of doing it that he would help me. That I "could" be pregnant and carry a child just fine as far as he could tell. But doing in vitro or some other method was just too expensive for us.
So a good OB/GYN check up with a doc that will do the testing to see what might be the issue would be the best way to go.
She needs to do this now or it may be too late. If she is having regular periods, not peri-menopausal, then he may be able to find what is keeping her from getting pregnant.
Also, has the guy been checked out? He may not have strong swimmers. They both need to work with the docs to find a way if it's possible before it gets to late in her life to get pregnant.
Just to add, there are many grandparents out there today, hundreds of thousands if not millions, raising their grandchildren. They are doing just fine, thank you, if not a better job of young parents.
We see the joy of playing, of taking time to just sit and talk, forgetting about stuff that is unimportant and taking time to be with the kids. It's not something I ever did as a parent.
Being an older parent is not all that bad.
I do have several friends who chose to have children, even like a second set of kids, at later ages. They are all better parents I think.
My friend that has MS is nearly 60 and has 2 pre-teen kids. She is more relaxed this time around. She is totally a different parent now.
Life experiences teach us what is important to teach kids and what is not so important.
If you friend truly wants to have a child she should try with her whole being until she is told it just isn't going to happen. Then she can always look at other options. BUT she is running out of time if she is able to get pregnant. We don't stay "ripe" for too many years.
