My SO and I would like to take our 6 yr old to play in the snow. We looked at Tahoe and to get a room for one night runs about $150! Is that normal prices? Any recomendations on the best place to go or stay?

Thanks in advance!

Hi L.,
We just came back from 3 nights at Tahoe. We used Expedia, but you could use Priceline or something else. We paid $29 a night. We went on a Thursday and stayed until Saturday. Our hotel was Best Tahoe West and it was right in town by the Nevada border. Good luck finding something cheap. I think you can, we did.

Several years back I stayed in Incline Village and I recall it being reasonably priced. If you have AAA Insurance check with their travel department they may have discounts.

Hi Larisa,

It depends on what kind of hotel that you pick. I prefer rent condo, because I have toddler. Last year I rent a condo with 2 bed/ 2 bath for $125. I found that place from craigslist.com (rental vac).

HI!

We are heading to Tahoe tomorrow, in fact. Go to vrbo.com vacation rental by owner. And search for homes. If you share a large home with a group of friends (which we do each year) the price comes out really cheap. Plus you have a kitchen, parking right outside the house, laundry, lots of room, much better than a hotel. And it is fun with a big group. Enjoy!

Hi L.

A day trip is very doable to a closer place like Dodge Ridge - it is about 3 - 3 1/2 hours from San Jose if traffic is clear and there is not a storm. There may be other places closer by for just playing in the snow, even as close as Mt. Hamilton!

Cheers
