I happen to be an African newly transplanted to the US for about 3.5yrs now struggling to adapt and love where i am.I am married with 2 little children and my dh is African too.My papers is taking ages to go thru and bcos of this i cant drive or work legally(am a pharmacist by profession)in the US.I am not able to go out much because the options i have is either waiting for my dh to drive me or going with a taxi which is quite expensive and we really dont have much to spend.I will like to meet some kind moms out there who will be willing to do some fun things together and even have play dates for our children.I love cooking and reading good books, i also enjoy window shopping.I will so much be glad to go shopping for the things we need without dragging my dh who is pretty busy and taking my cranky children who may need a nap when he is available to go.Our living is quite frustrating for both myself and my husband because it is added work for him and for myself it is a difficult life to live as an adult.I am asking for help hoping that some moms out there has at least children my kids age(3yo and 21mos)that the kids can play with since they are not in school and may be available for us to do some things together and get to know each other. Thanks

What can I do next?

N. U,
Why don't you join the MOMS Club? We are a non-profit organization that supports Moms who have made the decision to stay at home and raise their children. We have weekly play groups you can join. Field Trips each month. We provide, Art and Craft programs as well as Music enrichment class. In addition to these we have park play days (when the weather is better) Coffee socials where moms get together and chat and children play. We also have a 1 night a month for a Moms Night Out activity for just the moms. All of this is provided free or for a very small donation to participate.
There are 10,000 chapters of the MOMS Club across the country. Depending on where you live you can contact them.
In Loudoun there is a Purcellville chapter, Leesburg chapter and chapters in Ashburn as well.

The MOMS Club tag line is : Stay home but don't stay home along" This sounds like something that would interest you.

For more information you can look at our chapters website.
www.momsclubpurcellville.org

We are totally non-profit and also perform many charatible community service projects through out the year to better our communities.

On our website you will find out how to contact our Membership VP for a information package.

Hope this helps.

Dear N.,
I sure there are othere women in your situaction. You remind me of me when I came to the US about 34 years ago. We lived in Indiana where my husband went to Purdue Unversity and I had a 6 month daughter and was pregnant with another baby (which was a girl both are now are married and we have 4 grandchidren). I stayed home and baby sat other children and the children would play but I still didn't have too much contact with other moms. My husband was busy with getting his degree.
Anyway I finally we moved to New Jesery where my life changed. I got in volved with being a consult. with Mary Kay Cosmetics it has been 27 years now and I am a Director now. It is a home based business. I loved it because you work your own hours and get out to meet other women and make lots of friends. Plus, I made my own money was home when my girls home from school and got to dress up and improve my Image. I am wondering where was Mary Kay back then when we lived in Indiana. I guess because I was not out much that I didn't meet anyone in that line of work.
I love to offer you a pampering facial.

where in Ashburn are you? Does your neighborhood have a playground? I have a 3 year old, and I live in Ashburn as well and would love to come to your neighborhood for a playdate. I know what it is like to be stuck at home with 2 children, I've only had transportation for a few months myself. Please send me a message if you would like to get together :)

Hello N.,

Oh, I know so well what you are talking about... I am german and I was in the same situation right after we got married. I was waiting for my papers, I wasn't allowed to work, we only had one car that my husband needed, and we lived a long way out of town. We didn't have a baby back then.
Now things are a bit different but I still struggle to meet other moms, I guess it just comes with moving to a different country. My son is almost 8 months now; if you would like to get together send me a message and we can work something out.

Take care, S.
