I have a bachelor's degree in Business. But, I am wanting to go into teaching. Does anybody have any advice on how I should go about this process?
In 2002, I went with www.ecapteach.com
I also had a BBA and wanted to teach. The website will tell you all about it, and if you have further questions, I'd be glad to answer them. Beware though - it's VERY difficult in the DFW area to get a job unless you know someone. My brother and SIL also tried to do this a year ago and couldn't even get an interview. I had to drive all the way out to Weatherford, but at least I got a position. Good luck to you!
Also wanted to say that ECAP is great - they are helpful to me even today...
It depends on when you want to start teaching. I would also look at www.iteachtexas.com it has a program that takes about 6 months. I went through TWU's MAT program and had a great experience. It takes about 2 years. Hope this helps.
A few places in the DFW area are good resources and places to get certification. You can always go to the universities to get evaluated for certification- UNT, TWU, and UTD all have programs. Honestly as a former principal, I suggest going through a university program. There are lots of people with alternative certification and they are usually looked at second to those with a degree or university certification. With that said, alternative certification can be done through the Region X Service Center, Collin County Community College (program in Allen) and some of the programs mentioned by the others.
Good luck. Teaching is really rewarding!
M.,
We sponsor our teachers and pay for the whole process at Stonebriar Academy. We have many certified teachers and would love to have each and every one of them certified by next year. If you're interested in employment call ____@____.com
Hope this helps!
