I am 7 months pregnant and have had a good pregnacy. But for over a month now the babys movments have slowed down more and more. Most day I only feel the baby move about 10 to 15 times a day the baby moved much more than this last month and even more the month before. I have also be having very bad stomach pains in my upper stomach not low down at all mostly on my right side. I also get sick and throw up everyday usually twice to three times a day for over a week now. I said something to my doctor about this yesterday and he told me to drink ensure and try eating small meals. He said the babys heartbeat sounded strong and I have a ultrasound in a few weeks. But I am very worried. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do. Not only am I worried all the time but also my stomach crapms are very painful and i'm worried about how much I am trowing up.

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
Keep in close touch w/ your MD about the symptoms. Many babies slow down their movemeents as they get bigger- there isn't enough room to roll over. Same w/ stoamch ache/cramps--- I thought for sure my diaphragm was going to split open w/ all 4 of my pregnancies. W/ #1 he just "rolled" never really kicked much. #2 wanted to strech out and kept her foot in my lungs at all times. #3 Moved all over all of the time and #4, well, I barely noticed she was there! Amazingly this was quite the forshadowing of their personalities.
Another thing, sometimes, since the movements tend to be less sharp, if you sit down and relax you will feel the baby more.
Again, keep in clse touch w/ your MD, but this can all be very normal :-)

Yep, I agree with what has been said so far! They said both of the things I was going to say. #1 He/She is getting to big to move around nearly as much. AND #2 It's likely your gallbladder. I had nausea/vomitting my entire pregnancy, multiple sono's of my gallbladder, the whole shibang!!! And as my doctor predicted, once I had the baby, the upper quadrant pain and the nausea were instantly gone. Yeah! Apparently the increased estrogen can lead to crystal development in your gallbladder, which result in the cramping of the gallbladder (your pain) and the vomitting. I hope you feel better soon! BTW - there is a med called Zofram that works really well for the nausea. It's pricey, but well worth it in my book.

GALL STONES!!!!!! I had them during pregnancy! Upper right quadrant pain. Sometimes so terrible that you can barely breathe. Vomiting that does not ease the nausea. Try following a very low fat, low sugar diet. Nothing fried!!!!! I would still press your doctor to be a bit more concerned. His lack of concern bothers me. Your regular doctor can order a sonogram to detect the stones....that might put your mind at ease a bit.
Hang in there, and be sooooo careful with your diet. The attacks can usually be controlled with diet. I had two attacks during my pregnancy that were worse than labor....trust me you don't want one of those....so watch the fried foods, sugar and sometimes dairy.

With my first pregancy my son was never very active and I never felt a lot of movement. Near the end it became less and less and I hardly felt any movement. My doctor sent me for a stress test. Everything was fine and I have a very active and healthy little boy. I think everybody is different and I never felt him move a lot, but the thing to be concerned about is a change in movement especially a sudden change since near the end there is less room for the baby to move around. You have gotten a lot of good advice here and I encourage you to push for an ultra sound or a stress test for piece of mind. Best wishes!

I have had two children. First off, I don't know if you are expecting a girl or boy, but when I was pregnant with my son I would describe him as a lazy baby...he didn't move a whole lot. My girl moved alot more and both my kids are perfectly healthy. With both kids, the further along I go in my pregnancies the less they moved and I was told by my doctor this is because the bigger the baby gets the less room they have to move around. I think as long as you are feeling something you are okay. I would guess the pain you are describing is the position of the baby. My son used to get on my sciatic nerve and cause me great pain and loss of feeling in my leg. My daughter was transverse (side to side) until 37 weeks and this caused my ribs to hurt something awful. If your doctor isn't concerned and is aware of your symptoms I would try not to worry which I know is easier said than done. I think I spent both my pregnancies worrying that something bad would happen and I worried for no reason. I have two healthy, beautiful children.

I would push to have the ultrasound immediately, if for no other reason than to put your mind at ease. Speak to the nurses at your doc's office. Regardless of whether he thinks there is a medical reason for an ultrasound at this point, he should be attentive to the fact that you're concerned beyond the normal pregnancy worries.
I would certainly ask him about the possibility of gall stones.
Meanwhile, have you done the thing where you lay down on your side and count movements for 10 minutes or so?
Babies really do slow down in the last trimester, and if you're busy during the day you may not notice movements as much because they're not as pronounced or "new" as during the early months. When I did this with mine I would drink something really sweet or caffeinated, then wait about a half hour or so to do the count.
Also, for the ultrasound, if your doc doesn't want to move yours up, you could go someplace that does those 3D ultrasounds. I've heard they cost from $100-$200.

S.,
Hi there. I am a labor and delivery nurse. If it was me I would not allow my doctor to just shrug it off. There are tests he can do to see how things are going. For example, he could order an NST for you. This is done with a fetal moniter. It is non invasive but he can see basically how the baby is doing. There is also the ultrasound option. Maybe you have low fluid (oligo), etc. It could be nothing but I would personally start closely monitering how many times the baby is kicking. If you have a period where you don't feel her then drink something like juice and lay down on your left side and see if her activity picks up. Babies do go through sleep periods and sometimes babies are moving and mom's just don't realize it (especially first time moms). If you are worried that something doesn't feel right or is different I would have the doctor investigate it. Best of luck, Pam

Bananas and Milk!!!

That may sound strange, but I went through the same thing with my second pregnancy and I have a beautiful and health baby girl. I tried tickling her feet to make her move, pushing gently on my tummy, but then I remembered with my first it was bananas and milk. I would freak out because you are supposed to feel your baby move so many times that you sit there an try to count, determine if what you felt was movement, and then you make yourself sick. I had horrible stomach cramps and terrible braxton hicks contractions from 5 months to delivery. My ob gave me a prescription for what he calls "OB Pain Gel". It is a compounded medicine that I have done at BOth World Pharmacy in Arlington. I normally use it for my migrains, but I would use it for the stomach pains and cramps as well. It has pepermint oil and acetominophin in it. But also remember that you baby will go through sleep patterns as well.

Try bananas and milk. I have told 2 of my friends about it and it worked for them too. I know it sounds really stupid though.

Hi S.,

The slowing down of movement from the baby is not something that I would worry about at this point in your pregnancy. But, the pains I would and I certainly would not wait a few weeks for your next ultrasound. It is better to be safe than sorry. I would call your Dr. again and insist on an ultra sound immediately. If it is nothing you can quit worrying and if it is something, what a good thing you pushed for the ultra sound. High stress can bring on labor, so get the ultrasound for peace of mind.

Good luck

hey S.! I am a nurse and I can almost assure you that what's going on is your gallbladder. Try eating small, low fat meals. You may have to have it removed if it gets too bad. Good luck!!

I agree with Debi, keep in touch with your doc especially because of the vomiting. The slowed movement is normal because of the lack of space your little one has now. My little one kept his elbow poking out on my left side and I stayed so sore in that spot. See if maybe you can feel your little girl when the pain starts. There's a good chance it's a body part that's poking at ya!

ok I have to join in. I agree you have to stay on the Dr. It is your body and baby and that don't always know. I was high risk and was there all the time and had several sonograms. MY son would move a lot and my ribs hurt. When he was born his legs were cris crossed like indian style and he didn't have anyroom to get un stuck. Thats why I didn't feel him move as much. I never threw up but when i felt sick I would eat crushed ice from sonic or QuikTrip. I would sit and eat a cup of ice and it helped the nausea and helped the water in take too. If you go to QT you just have to ask for a bag so you can get crushed ice. You have to fill it at the soda pop or aska cashier if they will get you a bag. My husband would go get a bag every week ! Funny thing the manager said the only people who get bags of crushed ice is preg women. They knew my husband by name. So your not alone. Hope everything ok.

We all worry when we are preg.

I vomited several times a day the whole 9 months. It was so bad, by the time I was 5 mo preg, I had lost 10 lbs, and only gained 2 back! My dr. put me on Zofran, it helped, but is way expensive, so I only took it when I truly needed it. By the time I had my baby, I had gained 45 lbs (I'm only 5'0). So baby gets your food nutrients before you do, mine was so bad we both had none, but it worked it in the end. Also, once baby gets bigger, her movements slow down to more sliding movements b/c they are getting tighter in the womb. If the heartbeat sounds strong, that's great. I don't know about the side pain, I had pain all the time :lol I can't remember it being in a specific spot though. I would tell your dr. you are very stressed and would feel much better about having your ultrasound now! Besides, stress/worry will only add to the vomiting, so you need it for yours and your baby's health! My dr. gave me 6 ultrasounds the last 2 weeks b/c he was worried. I was dilated to a 7 and 60% effaced 2 weeks before I had him! Even still, he ended up being 4 days late/ my placenta was calcified so we were going in for induction, but my water ended up breaking. He was face up and cord around his neck/ I pushed 1 hour 10 mins, and ended up having a vacuum delivery. He was 8.7 and very strong! Through all that worry, I'm glad I had those extra ultrasounds, it kept me sane and healthy! Good Luck to you and your baby!

Hi S.,

As your baby gets larger inside of you, they have less room to move around. That is one reason that you would feel less movements. As long as you are feeling kicks, the baby should be fine. Are your cramps indigestion or acid reflux? I got both of those with both of my pregnanices. It helps to take so Mylanta to soothe your stomach or even some acid reflux medicine. Just check with your doctor which would be best for you. If you are having pains on your right side, the baby may be on your ciatic nerve. My daughter tended to rest on my right side causing me imense pain. Sometimes I would nearly collapse as I was walking because she would shift onto my ciatic nerve. Does your baby rest more to one side? The muscles may be stretching more so on your right side which would cause pain. Lastly, idigestion and acid reflux can cause vomiting. What types of food are you eating? I know many women have trouble with pastas. I could not eat pasta with either pregnancy, but I could eat all the spicy food I wanted. Everyone is different. Just try to recognize which foods settle well and which one's do not. If you are really concerned with the baby, go to the hospital. They will not criticize you for being afraid. I did this with my first child. They will most likely do an ultrasound and monitor the baby's heartbeat. If anything is wrong they will tell you then, if not, you will at least have some peace with the pain.

Good luck,

Well I just recently went through a High Risk pregnancy. Around the same time I started noticing less movement but not enough to alarm the doctor and pain in my upper stomach and lower back. I had to see my Obterician along with a Prenatal specialist. The Prenatal doctor told me that it was normal that I was feeling the onset of Braxton Hicks (false labor). And nausea and some vomiting does happen in the last trimester, similar to the first trimester. Also once you get closer to your due date and get bigger the baby has less room to move around so they don't move as much. Also they sleep more for some reason towards the end. But if you feel like something is wrong (which only you know how you feel) voice your concerns with your doctor so they won't miss a thing. Besides, you pay them to take care of you and to answer all of your questions. Hope this helps.

I do ultrasounds so I thought I would add my opinion. The pain and vomiting could be from gallstones. They are quite common. Changing the way you eat can sometimes help. Fatty, fried, or spicy foods tend to make the pain worse. Tell your doctor that you want them to do an ultrasound of your gallbladder when they do your ultrasound of the baby. Your doctor shouldn't have any problems with it. It won't hurt the baby since it is ultrasound and it will help you to know if that is where the pain is comming from or not. I also agree with the nurse that said to get your doctor to do the NST/ultrasound.

Oh boy do I feel your pain!!! I know it is hard not to worry, and if you truely feel something is wrong, press your Dr. Remember you are paying him to take care of you..The pains you feel could very well be where the baby is lying, likely jabbing you with her knee or something. They definitely dont move around as much, but as they get bigger, you can feel things more intensely. As for the throwing up, I did it all the way through 3 pregnancies!! This last one I weighed 35 pounds less after delivery that I did at my first appointment. However, I have birth to a healthy 8 lb baby. My best advice is to always eat what sounds good to you, no matter what. And try popsicles, or icees etc.. Water made me so sick that I had to find creative ways to stay hydrated. Sucking on Sonic ice was also a favorite, they will even sell you a bag if you want. It was pretty great. If you are like me, there is no way I could have drank ensure and not been sick. Maybe try sipping on one throughout the day, and never with out something in your stomach first! I am sorry for the long post, just wanting to pass along some ideas. Remember that the baby is probably pushing on your stomach creating less space, so for sure the small meals will help too. Best of luck to you! You will get through it I promise :)
