I have read all the questions and answers about mammo recall but I still fell like i want to throw up. I am scared to death. Went for my regular mammo last week and received a call on Tuesday that I needed to come back for more pictures. When I asked why she said the paper says calcifications. Then she proceeded to tell me that it could take two hours and I would kmow the results same day. I am scared to death. . .

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I posted in March and went for my six month re check. I need to have a biopsy of the calcifications, I am going on Tuesday. I am a nervous wreck, can't stop crying, I figure that I must be really sick. It feels like everyone I know is being diagnosed with cancer. My dad walked into the hospital six weeks ago and was gone within two weeks from liver cancer. I am so sad and worried.

I had a scare but not the same as you're having and had to go every 6 months or so and nothing was wrong really. Better to be careful than sorry later. I think the calcifications are common as you get a bit older and usually nothing to worry about.

I freaked the first time that happened but it did turn out to be nothing. I figured even if it was something that something was so small they didn't know if it was something so it would be totally curable, ya know?

Yay! I'm so glad you go to such a careful place that they call people back even when everything's totally fine (because we KNOW it is in your case!). Better safe than sorry!

Hang on, mama. I've been in your shoes & everything was just fine. I'm confident that, in another year or so, you'll be in my shoes: telling someone else "Oh, no worries! It happened to me & it was nothing. They were just being cautious!"

Post a note when you're given the all clear, OK?

It's pretty typical for them to call women back if there seems to be anything in the images that makes the images harder to read, or if there's something like calcifications for which they want to have better images. Even if an image is just not clear enough, they will call you back for that. So this could be nothing. And if it is something --better to know sooner and get started on whatever must be done all the sooner, too. The same-day reading is also typical for call-backs, whatever the reason for the call-back. I know this is scary no matter what we say to reassure you! I find it scary too. But keep telling yourself: Knowledge is better than ignorance here. Try to take someone with you if you can, so you have someone to talk with while you wait and on the way home.

Don't be frightened. Be certain to request the thyroid guard when you get your mammogram done this time.

My mom died of breast cancer. When it was first detected she got it treated and was doing just fine until there was something wrong with the incision from the orginal biopsy, she refused to get it looked into and fast forward two years of negligence for what ever the reason and she isn't here. Please I'm begging you. Get yourself checked out again and move forward toward life and living. Please don't bury you head in the sand like my mom because that could mean a death sentence.

go in and don't panic till you know more. It may just be really dense breast tissue or could be a lymph node that is bigger than normal. I have had breast cancer. Have had a lymph node on my left side that has been bigger than normal for about 10 years. each mammo they pull me back in for more pictures and ultra sounds. I had to get a needle guided biopsy only to have them tell me it is nothing. they put a marker in so they can tell if it has grown any from year to year. The cancer I had was on the other side and didn't show at all on the mammo and the next year (almost a year to the day) it was stage 3 and growing by the day. It was not there in my shower one day and the next day it was a lump. so don't panic till you know more. I will say some prayers.

They recalled me once. There was a fold of skin in the picture. Stress is bad for you. Relax and watch a funny movie. 99% of the time it is nothing.

Thank you all for your support. Went this morning and everything appears to be okay. I have to return in 6 months for anothe rmammography and if everything looks the same then back to yearly. The tech explained that with calcifications there are two options either return in six months or biopsy, they are very cautious. Thank you again.

Get in and get it over with mama! It is very scary bit I will give you the advice my mom always gave me. She said to not worry or stress over the things you can't change. All we can do is face it head on and deal with it! She was so right! Don't freak out until there us a reason too. You don't know for sure, so let's keep a open mind and a strong heart. Whatever it may be, we will deal with this and come out stronger. Best of luck love! Keep us posted!

Get in and get it taken care of asap. The waiting is the absolute worst part. I had my very first mammography 3 years ago when I turned 40. I was confident things would be okay. Then I got a call to come back in because they found something. I was scared too and couldn't wait to get in. Further tests showed that I had a fibroid cyst. I didn't even know I had it and it was painful for a long time, but I was clueless--I thought that that is how my breast was suppose to feel. After I had the cyst aspirated, my breast felt completely different. Since then, the other two mammos have been fine.

So, please get in asap so that you can feel better:)
