Want to Gift Book Set to 3Rd Grade Teacher

Ex 1st grade teacher here. Visit the another 3rd grade teacher in the school and ask him/her for advice.

Geronimo Stilton is a great series.

Ask the teacher what she would like to have in her classroom.
She might like something you haven't thought of yet...

I would give the teacher a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble or whatever the local book store is and let her choose, or ask for suggestions. She will know what they have read, what is easily accessible in her own school library, and may have something in mind.

The Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins. Five excellent books, and a great overall story, especially for that age group.

I have to agree with Magic Treehouse books. Both of my kids loved them and because there are so many it will give you plenty of choice. Make sure to get the first one since it sets up the 'magic' of the treehouse, but other than that they can be read in any order. There are very few references between books. They other benefit, is these books really emphasize the fun of reading. All of the adventures the two kids go on begin with a book!

In my granddaughter's school, the teachers give a PTA committee chairman the titles to books that they would like to have in their classroom and the PTA divies up money to provide as many sets as they have money available.

I suggest that you either talk directly with the teacher or ask someone on the PTA board if they have info on books that this teacher would like to have. I would talk directly with the teacher. The books you give her will be most useful if they fit in with the teacher's plans for her class. You also don't want to duplicate what she already has or will be getting.

Magic Treehouse is too young for third grade-at least it would be for our district. Only the remedial readers in my son's class are reading them now. I would suggest Harry Potter, Narnia or Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

If your thinking of books for her personal classroom library I would call the school librarian and ask what books are on the 3rd grade reading list. I know my son in 3rd grade loved the magic tree house series, the sideways school series, the hank the cow dog series romona the pest series, and loads of stand alone books. I don't think I would do a serious set like an atlas or encyclopedia. they won't get near as much use and the kids use the ones in the library. She may not have space for a set that big. but that's just me lol.

We have just found The Magic Treehouse books. There are a lot of them. My kids from 2nd to 6th grade read them. These are great books. They are fiction books about a brother and sister that travel to different times/places in a treehouse. Even though they are fiction they also have facts about the places/things they see. I have even learned a few things (ie. I never knew a polar bear could cross ice that wouldn't even hold a human) These appeal to girls and boys. I would recommend them to anyone.

What a great gift. When I was teaching I loved to get books for gifts. Much better than another coffee mug! :) She may like a set of nonfiction books or a nice atlas for kids. National geographic has some great atlases for kids. We have bought a couple for our son. I bought them online on the Nat. Geo. website.

You could ask her for some ideas, too.
