I heard a lot of people are ditching cable/satalites and using HD antennas to get free channels. Some use the Wii or netflix to watch movies/tv shows but my biggest issue is SPORTS and my husband....anyone have this issue and what do you do? I think we would need ESPN and NFL network but not sure if they are aired anywhere else than big box cable companies..I did a search for channels in my area but not sure what the next step is...

What can I do next?

I don't know the answer, but I'm in the same boat so I'll be monitoring your responses. Right now I pay over $200 per month for a bundled internet, phone and cable through Comcast. Looking for ways to cut that waaayyyy down, but my hubby is insistent that he be able to keep his HD and sports channels!

I'm in the same boat, and have not found an alternative. We bounce between DirectTV and Verizon Fios, because they cost less than cable in my area. But they are still expensive.

Basic basic cable has ESPN & ESPN2. That'll be maybe $40 a month max, if that, which is a HUGE savings over the bigger packages. None of the sports channels are broadcast over the air, so any antenna will not help you with that. If you want to keep the sports channels, you'll have keep cable of some sort. I have Comcast because nothing else is available in my area yet and I had years of bad issues with satellite. Plus, if you call to cancel, they'll likely offer you some major deal to keep you for another 6 months--like same service for introductory/new customer price, etc.

Antenna-only will get you the local channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB and maybe PBS and a couple other low-budget stations).

I know before we had cable, and lived in a different area, where we could actually get channels with an antenna, we really missed sports. I personally LOVE college football, well I love watching my team, any others I really don't care about. Ha! Ha! But if you have a way to hook your computer up to your TV, there are sites you can use to stream the games. For the life of me I can't remember which one, but a Google search should turn up a few that stream games. I think you might be able to get a few through the ESPN site, but I don't know that for sure. Sometimes if it is a game that is shown on a network station, their sites will stream them as well.
If I found them and used them, they must not have been too difficult to use or find! I think I Googled "Free football streaming" or something to that effect, because I was looking for football games. Hope you find something!
