Want Other Mom Opinions

My son has extremely bad allergies and asthma. I was told by his allergist that we should look into removing our carpet and replacing with hardwood. This was something we had planned on doing within the next 5 yrs but I guess we need to move that up a bit. My question is...all 4 bdrms (2 dwn,2 up) a study, living room dinning room and game room and media room both upstairs all have carpet. I already have hardwood in the entry and halls of my house. If I had to guess about 3,400 sq ft that would have to be replaced. Should I just do all the rooms upstairs which is where my son plays and sleeps, the Living room, dinning room and study all in hardwood? This would leave the 2 bedrooms and oh, the steps with carpet. Or should I just have every piece of carpet replaced? I wanted to get opinions on if I had to sell my house in the next 5-6 yrs would it be weird that we only had carpet in those two downstairs bedroom? Also, does anyone have hardwood floors on the second story of their house or on their steps? How is the noise? And if anyone has any great recommendations on installers near the McKinney area that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
K.

Hi K.!! I have another solution you could try...I'm not sure if you've done any research, but it has been proven (lots of articles and news reports) that the chemicals and toxins in our homes contribute to issues such as allergies, asthma, ezcema, ADD, Autism and others. When you get these toxins/chemicals out of your home, the symptoms are lessened or even gone completely. I'd like to be able help you with this. Please contact me if you are interested in trying this out or even just talking about it.

I look forward to speaking with you!

We too are in the process of getting food floors in our due to my sons allergies and me trying to prevent him from taking medication everyday. I also have switched all of our house over to all natural products which was suggested by my ped. when he was about to get on Zertek (not sure of the spelling) and he would also be using Steriod cream for his ezcema. Ever since we switched his ezema has completely gone away as well as us not having to have him on medication every day. Which to me makes me feel better. I just hated the thought of giving him a medication everyday and who knows how long he would be taking it. Just a thought good luck!

Our son has allergies as well... (strange that all of us are talking about boys, isn't it?) Anyway...

Do what you can to get the carpet replaced. We are in an apartment right now. I have a dyson vaccum and I use it literally every other day. I'm addicted to it. We both start getting snotty and sneezy if I don't use it. It really helps us a lot to get the 'schmutz' out of the floor, and I am crazy about getting the air filters replaced every 30 days.

Good luck! The dyson is well worth its weight in gold. There are no replacements or substitutes.

I love wood floors. I've seen many homes with hardwood flooring throughout main living areas and carpet in bedrooms. I don't think that is weird at all.
