Does anyone have a Roomba, the robot vaccuum? I would like to get one for my upstairs and want to know if they do a good job and are worth the money?

I have 2 kids, a husband :-) and a Black lab and my floors always look perfect! I even had a neighbor that was watching the dog ask me how my carpet was always vacumed.

I have 2 Roombas that run every day and a Scooba that mops my kitchen floor. I have a small home but with working full time, I wouldn't trade them for anything!

BTW... I have the older models that you can get online for $99.00. I didn't pay $300.00 like Target wants!

Good Luck!
E.

I do like my Roomba, but I think the key is to set it going frequently. If you can schedule it to go once every day or every other day, I think you will be very happy. (I would still use the regular vaccuum every now and then.)

I got a roomba when my first child was born. It didn't turn out as great as I thought. My house doesn't have defined rooms, so it goes and goes till it runs out of juice and I can't really tell it did much. I have a lab that sheds like crazy, so hair is always piling up at my baseboards. The roomba doesn't even go around the room well to pick that up! I ended up buying a Dyson so I can at least clean around the edge of the room, but it works so well I end up cleaning the whole thing. I think the Dyson was a much better value. I will say that the newer Roomba models are supposed to have updated roaming software so they don't just 'go in circles'. Not sure if it is better, though.

They are ok for lightly used areas that just need a quick vacuum, but they aren't good for heavy traffic areas. I much prefer using a regular vacuum.

J.,

I do not know anything about a Roomba, but I couldn't resist sending you a note after reading your "a little about me" section. The first thing that came to mind was "Wow!" You are an incredibly hard working woman who I imagine is doing it to make ends meet for your family. You are an example to women of hard work and faithfulness. I can only try to imagine how difficult your schedule can be on you at times (if not all the time), and I am so proud of and impressed by how hard you are working. Keep persevering!!!

Merry Christmas,

Lisa :)

I don't actually have one, but my Mom does. They do a great job, but they have a really small collection tray. So...if you don't mind constantly having to empty the tray then it is the vaccume for you! They work really good on any surface and even go from hard wood to up on top of the rugs. Anyway, I hope that helps. Merry Christmas!

I don't have a Roomba but I do have a Scooba (made by the same company) for my tile floors and it does a great job!

I have 2 and absolutely LOVE them! Mine are schedulers, so they run automatically every day. We do have a housekeeper that comes every other week, and she does a 'regular' vacuum job then, but I never have to vacuum in between. I would suggest that you do haul out the regular vacuum about that often, but for keeping the everyday mess from making your house look dirty, they can't be beat!

Dear J.:

For me, the Roomba has not been very helpful. My house is open concept with lots of nooks and crannies. With only one set of sensors, it would run from the living room into the kitchen and run out of "juice" before the living room could be completed. If I have to move the sensors to avoid this, empty the tray, and pull it out after it gets stuck under the sofa-back table and the sofa, as well as pick up all small objects, suddenly I'm not saving much time and energy.

Perhaps your home is set up differently, but at least this gives you something to think about.

Jen

Not worth it. It would get stuck under the couch and the back collector would fall off.

Hi J.: I actually won a Roomba at an office party. I found it to be practically useless. It never gets into the corners or along edges. You have to constantly empty the tray. I would much rather haul out my regular Dyson, which has far superior sucking power and get it done right the first time. I got rid of it at a garage sale recently and was glad to see it go! Buy a Dyson. It costs a little more, but if you want a clean home free of dust and pet hairs - it is worth every penny! C.

I( have one and i love it. It does a fairly good job at picking up and all. I think it was worth the money. Plus you can take it any where you go. Like on vacations . I have the romote control one just a push of a button and off it goes.
