Walk Fit Shoe Inserts--pros and Cons

I have very flat feet and was recently looking into the Walk fit shoe inserts (the ones that have the infomercials on TV) and was wondering if anyone else has a pair and what they think about them. The reason I was looking at these is that my feet have started hurting constantly. I cannot get out of bed in the morning without pain in my feet. I have not sprained my ankle, the pain is actually in my heel--but only in one foot. If I have been standing for too long my feet also start to ache because of my flat foot issue. Any help about these inserts would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses to my questions. I decided that I would try new shoes first that would support my feet better because I realized that the pain started when I started exercising more frequently. That has helped a lot, but I am going to check out the insoles that they have at Walmart (as per some of the posts) to see if I can find something that will help when I am not exercising too. Thanks a million for the advice and support---it is good to know that I am not the only one out there suffering from this ailment.

I don't know about those specific ones but I also have flat feet and my podiatrist made a digital scan of my feet and had some custom orthotics made for me at a lab. I LOVE them!!! My feet feel SO much better. The down side was that they cost me $300. Well come to find out Costco does the exact same thing for $80! They do a digital scan and even the same LAB makes them!!! I was mad to find out I wasted that money! Oh well they make a world of difference to how my feet feel. I love them. But I would have gone to Costco had I known.

You have a heel spur. I suffer from it as well. I spent two years going to a podiatrist, getting injections in my feet, sleeping in a special boot that cost me $100 and spent a ton of money on shoe inserts. None of it worked!! I was told I would need surgery because it wasn't getting any better.
The pain is gone! You want to know how I did it? I purchased some simple arch support bands at Walmart. They cost like $2!! They're very simple a thick stretchy band you just wear around the arch of your foot. It hugs it very tight. They are over by the ace bandages, knee and ankle supports and shoe inserts. I worn them constantly for about a week until the pain just went away. I still put them on after a long day on my feet or if I know I'll be doing a lot of walking and standing. Try them before you invest a lot of money!! They worked WONDERS for me!! $2 that's all!

Okay so my husband and I both got these shoe inserts. He does not have flat feet and he loved them and still uses them. I however do have flat feet and tried them and it hurt my arch. I was hoping to be able to wear a smaller size shoe (I have big feet) if I wore them but they hurt too much. So I don't wear them. THe most I have worn them is about a couple of hrs on the lowest setting... I just had to take them out. So that is my own personal experience. I really wanted them to work... You could have mine if you are a size 12 womens....

Sounds like plantar fasciitus. I have not heard of walk fit inserts, but the Good Feet store helped me limp in on a Friday and start running again by Monday. Good luck! I know how bad this pain is.

Sounds like classic plantar faciitis - I've suffered for years!! I actually went to a podiatrist who did a computerized gait/foot analysis and had orthotic inserts made specially for me. A bit pricey, but to be finally pain-free was amazing!!! The shoes you wear make a huge difference, too - try to wear a lot of super supportive athletic shoes. My Dr. recommended Brooks Ariel running shoes. Also, try not to go barefoot - this kills me because I love to go barefoot! But all these things really make a difference in the pain! Good luck!

Being marginally flat footed myself I can say that your best option would probably be to go buy some Dr. Scholls arch support insoles. The pain in your heel is more than likely your Plantar Fascia tendon getting stretched or irritated from your standing.
I work outside, walking around on ground that varies from hard & dry to wet, sloppy & slick. My arched & heels started aching and being painful about a year ago. I bought the arch supports and combine them with a gel insert and the only time I have problems with foot pain is when I forget to swap the inserts. I would really suggest you try that route, instead of spending a lot on money on infomercial stuff (that's usually unfounded, unproved and flat out a waste of time & money) before you look for anything else.
Also, try rolling a tennis ball under your sore foot for a minute a day for a couple of days and see if that help the pain. But, really, you just need arch support, especially if you are standing a lot now where you didn't have to before.
Good Luck and I hope it gets better.

My husband had the same thing a couple of years ago. He went to a podiatrist, was given some exercises to do and a shoe insert. Now we just buy the insert at Wal Mart. I can't remember what the name of it is. I believe it is Dr. Schol's. It has really worked and he currently doesn't have the problem.

I don't know anything about the walk fit inserts, but I do know that nothing helped me until I went to a podiatrist. He made molds of my feet and made orthotics for me. My feet are extremely flat and these helped me a lot. The only thing is they are expensive unless your insurance pays for them. It sounds like you might have a problem with your heel that is not related to your flat feet. I think you need to see a podiatrist.

EXACT same problem here, pain was on my right foot only. Turns out I have plantar facitis and bone spurs. SO, my advice to you before you waste money on useless stuff....go see a foot Dr. He can tell you what is right for you.

Please check out this website: http://www.flatfoot.com/Research.htm

I've used the arch support inserts for 20 years--custom made from doctor's office and Dr. Scholls.

I was wary. I only bought one insert. Now I wish I'd bought 2 sets. The first 2 days, my toe felt kinda weird, but after that I NEVER had had Knee or foot pain again.

The only thing is....if I go barefoot for a few days, it feels weird for the 2 days again.

It really was better than any of the arch support inserts I've ever had.

Check it out - I hope it works well for you :)

I agree with Jennifer, and I know the Good Feet store helped my mom tremendously with it. As far as the flat feet goes, my husband has impressively flat feet. Two doctors have recommended surgery for him. We're just trying to get it scheduled for when we've met our deductible and he has the recovery time. He had a lot of other help to get to this point. You might look at seeing a orthopedic doctor. We've been pleased with what they've done for my husband. Unfortunately, his case is just too severe. GL!

I just bought a pair of WalkFits at Target, they were 19.95 just like the infomercial. I have foot issues from Achilles Tendonitis pain for over 10 months and to arthritus in my knees. I put these in my tennis shoes and found that they are somewhat comfortable, especially for being plastic. I have a high arch but I am using the low version, they give Medium and High inserts also in the package. I feel less pain in my heel today and my knees feel a bit better also. Hmmm..something actually makes me feel somewhat better. You should try them. I am not a spokes person for these, I am an actual person that wears them. TB 8/17/2012

J.,

I had almost identical issue with my first pregnancy. And it did not go away. I bit the bullet and went to podiatrist and got inserts specially made for my feet. They were pricy but worth every penny. I have had not foot pain, and my life long knee pain is gone. also, i had no back pain with my second pregnancy. I say skip the "cheaper" otc versions and have them specially made for your feet. Mine were 700 dollars, i know it sounds crazy but many insurances will pay for part or all of it!!!!!

My mother in law had the same problem. She went to a store called "Good Feet" where they have orthopedic shoes and they specially fit you to solve your specific feet problems. She has been able to walk without pain since she went there. Some of the shoes are funny looking though! : )

It sounds like you may have plantar fasciitis. It is VERY painful and difficult to get a handle on. I have had much better luck with ultra sound treatments than with the Walk Fit shoe inserts. After over a month of using the inserts I can still only wear the low level and only for about an hour at a time.
