Waking up for Feedings

I am wondering how long I am supposed to keep waking up my infant to nurse during the day. This is my second child and I can't remember how long I did this with my first. The hospital said to wake her every 3-4 hours during the day. How long do I keep doing this?
Thanks.

What can I do next?

I would ask your ped. But if she is gaining weight, I would say let her sleep.

I have a 6 month old and remember those early days and she's got to figure out her own schedule.

Good Luck!

Until she is sleeping through the night so her longest stretches of sleep are encouraged to be at night and not during the day.

Once they're a month old, if they sleep longer than 4 hours, God bless them.

I would say that you should ask your pediatrician. There is the camp that states "never wake a sleeping baby" and the other that a baby needs to be woken up as PP said or to ensure they are eating to gain proper weight. Your pediatrician would have more insight if she is meeting her weight and can sleep longer. Congrats!

M.:

my rule of thumb is that it is better to wake babies during the day to get a longer stretch at night. as long as babies wake to feed and are feeding and voiding appropriately I do not feel that you need to wake them at night.
