I was thinking about buying a Vtech Smile or Cyber Pocket. After reading peoples comments on them on various webistes, I have found a lot of contradictions. Does anyone have either or another Vtech product? How does it work - does it just shut off; die after a few weeks or months; etc? Are you happy with the purchase? Did your child(ren) like it and learn from it? I would appreciate any and all of your user input.

What can I do next?

I have 2 kids 5 and 2 and they love it. It works fine, they learn, easy to change games out, and it's fun for them. I had the original now I have the one that you can write on the controller, and plan to buy the motion system. I also gave one to a friend whose kids are the same age as mine and they love it as well. I recommend it. Good luck

Hi! My daughter has the Vtech Vsmile and she loves it. My sister found it on Craigslist for about $50 I think, and it came with a power cord - if you just use batteries it dies very quickly! We started with 4 games, an Alphabet game, Barney, Lion King, and Bob the Builder and have recently gotten a couple of older games, Spiderman and Scooby Doo. All of the games have a Learning Zone and Learning Adventure option. I am very pleased with it, Abbey can put the games in herself and push start button. On occasion, it doesn't start up, but I jiggle the power cord and she's good to go. The joystick is easy to maneuver and is changeable for a right or left handed kid. I find it very educational, and there is no violence. There are matching games, counting, colors, math, and coordination. Let me know if you have any other questions, best wishes with your decision!

I have a number of Vtech products. A few shut-off automaticlly. Some are shut-off by a switch. Others do eventually shut-off, but I swear if you look at it cross-eyed, it turns on again. I recommend Vtech as learning tools/toys. I also suggest finding those Vtech toys that have a switch to shut them down (for the parent's sanity). If you do get the "auto shut-off", be sure to have a box or bin you can place them in to put away (say in a closet). This helps the sanity factor. :o)

We have bought Vtech V-smiles in the past and ours did stop working after a short time. We initially just bought on for our daughter and when hers stopped working after about 3 months I thought she had just dropped it to many times so this last Christmas we bought one for all the kids (3 of them) and by the end of summer none of them worked. I would not recommend buying these as since my daughters were a bit older they took really good care of theirs and they kept them in the case so I know that the malfunction was not due to mistreating them. I am not sure what we are going to try to replace them with this year but I know we will not be buying a V-tech product again for our other smaller children when they get old enough. Hope that helps. Have a great day.

Hi,
We have both! I and my kids love the V-Smile and Pocket!
We started off w/ the Smile for our oldest son. We got him the Pocket when his little brother started walking and getting, "in his way"!
I recommend power cords a/o adaptors for both. We actually bought an adaptor @ Radio Shack for a decent price that comes w/ different plugs so you can use it on more than one item!
All in all, definately worth the investment. My oldest is 8, and he still wants VTech products for learning!

I really liked it and so did my kids. They learned a lot and we never had any problems with it dying. We still have it but they have kind of outgrown it. But they played it for a good year or so....

We have a VSmile. My kids LOVE it. It realy holds their attention and teaches them at the same time. The great thing for me is that my 3 older kids are all SOOOO different in their learning habbits and stlyes and this game system works for all 3. For instance my 7 year old daughter is a typical child in her learning abilitys, there are games for her age range that give her a good challange in reading and math (she like that it is not too easy). My 5 year old son has special needs in the learning field. He actually learns better off computer games than from a persons instruction (he lacks in social skills) and he has fine motor skill delays, this game system is easy and fun for him to controll. My 4 year old daughter is ADHD, she has the attention span of a fly, but she will sit and play for LONG periods of time and might I add quietly (its amazing!!) I am def. going to get the hand held portable games for each of them for X-mas this year. I think it will be great for car rides and Dr. office visits to keep them buisy and learining.

We bought a Vtech smile a couple years ago and my 3 girls have really enjoyed it. They still use it. Not as much as they do the wii of course but it's a great educational toy. The greatest thing is while the older 2 are playing the wii, my younger one can play with the vtech and be entertained with one of the parents or alone. We have bought or been given several games and it's fun to sit down and play with them while they learn. I think it all depends on the dynamics of your family. But after 2 years, it is still going strong at our house.

Good luck!
