I have a 9 year old girl that only does her poop when she is asleep and not every day. She goes to the potty for pee well during the day but no poop. She has to wear "good nites" because she wont wake up for going to the bathroom, and in the morning she does not remember having done it. We tried changing her diet to include more fiber, we have spoken to her lots of times, tried not wearing the diapers at night... but nothing works, we don't know what to do .... Please help!!!!!!! Thanks

What can I do next?

That is unusual for a 9 year old. See a pediatrician.

Not to scare you- but fecal incontinance (pooping in her pants) is also sometimes a symptom of children that are being sexually abused - but I have never heard of it only at night...

Sounds more like a medical issue

Do you have a certain schedule that's allowing her bowels to move at a certain time. It takes 4 hrs for our bowels to move the food from the last time we ate. The food we eat at 12noon will quite likely push out at 4pm the food we ate at 8am. So if she does it a certain time in the nights, she must be eating at the same time each day forcing the bowels to only move at night. My son has a bowel movement every night at 8pm, he has breakfast at 8am in the mornings, at his preschool he eats lunch at 11:30 and around 4pm he has a snack. So when I get home and feed him around 7:30pm at night, he pushes out the snack and remnants of his lunch at 8pm. We pee during the day because our bladder gets full much quicker than our intestines. See if it's her schedule and not necessarily a condition

I mix a couple tablespoons of flaxseed with yogurt or in a smoothie and it makes my son go within 30 minutes because of the fiber and omega fatty acids. Maybe you could incorporate into your morning breakfast routine to try to create a morning schedule for her.

Since B and V are right next to each other on the keyboard so I say we give M. the benefit of the doubt that she knows what vowels are lol! But it is unusual for her age to have this problem. It's quite possible she's ignoring the urge to go when she's at school for whatever reason and then while she's asleep and relaxed, she goes. I would discuss it with her in a gentle way. Maybe she's embarrassed to go at school. If it's not anything like that then I would consult her pediatrician.

Good Day,
Have you tried setting a "wake-up" schedule for her. Like if she goes to bed at 8-9 pm, you wake her up and insist that she goes to the bathroom around 11, and try it every few hours, till it actually becomes a habit? I realize that you also would be stuck with this kind of schedule for a while also, but the end results may be worth it for a couple of months?! Has her doctors commented on this; and could it be a physical issue? I pray it is not; and that making & sticking with a night time wake up will help her & you's! I will keep you both in my prayers! God bless you's...

I would speak with her pediatrician and see about getting her to a pediatric gasteroenterologist. If she is moving her BOWELS ("vowels" are a,e,i,o,u) while she is asleep, it sounds like it is involuntary and she needs to see an expert since she is already 9 years old.

I think it's time to go to a doctor and rule out any physical issues. I'm sure that visit won't be a very pleasant one so..... you may want to tell her about what they are going to do ahead of time. Also telling her about it ahead of time may help her if it's a mental thing - could make her change her mind about holding.
Best of luck!
Jen

Ask your doctor about the Bowel movement issue. She's too old for this.
