My girlfriend has a problem right now, since her son was born he has been vomiting 6-10 times a day with no explination of why. He has seen his doctor a bazillion times and ruled out almost everything, due to his weight and growth size they have pushed it off as something he will grow out of. He is not lactose intolerant no allergies not drinking or eating any type of dairy product or anything like that. Its been 2 years now and still nothing,she has been to a gastro doctor at the sick kids hospital and planning a scope but for now they are all saying nothing s wrong, he is not teething, not going threw a growth spurt, and honestly I have seen him vomit, and its like he will drink something and 5 minutes later, he vomits it all out. He will eat and 5 minutes later its all out. I thought maybe he is doing it out og habit now, but unfortunatly, its hurting him now, and he is also vomiting while he is dead asleep. he is choking on it and cries and it looks as if he is struggling to get it out. any type of help will be greatly appreciated.
Vomiting can be a symptom of a brain tumor, or reflux, has he had xrays done while he is digesting? a million other things too...
Has he been checked for Pyloric Stenosis?
My nephew had a similar issue. They did the scope and figured out that he had a "floppy epiglotis (sp?)" Not sure what they did about it. That was years ago. I hope the poor little man gets some help soon! That sounds aweful!
Our son (who is now 20 years old), when he was little, he started vomiting everyday...literally...I had NO idea when or where it would happen, and it wasn't just a little "spit-up" but it was a whole bunch...I got to where I didn't want to even go out of the house with him for fear he would vomit...it made a huge mess and sometimes I had to change myself and always had to change all of his clothes, clean the floor/carpet, etc. I took him to the doctor and she explained that he had an "immature swallower"...there was a more sophisiticated name but this was so I could understand it. The Doctor said he would grow out of it eventually, but it could last for 2 - 3 YEARS! Ugh. I said NO WAY...this wasn't normal and something needed to be done. He vomited for 30 days straight and I was ready to "go crazy". Anyway, he did out-grow it (thankfully), but to this day he is very thin-built and still can be a little "gaggy" with certain foods...(which he just stays away from)...but I think it stems back from when he was a baby! If he puts a piece of lettuce in his mouth he will instantly vomit! Hope you find some relief, I certainly remember those days and it was very frustrating and frightening as well. Good Luck!
check for congitial adrenal hyperplasia or some sort of adrenal deficiency.
Aw man, poor little guy. It sounds to me like the flap that is between his stomach and esophagus is not strong enough. While I hate to recommend such an invasive procedure, the scope is probably a good idea to see exactly what is going on. I sure hope they find out what the problem is.
I would for sure find a new pediatrician too! 2 years of 6-10 times per day of vomitting and the dr saying it is normal....WHAT!!!!!!!!
I don't have any answers or experiences for you. But, I do have three young children of my own and I can't imagine what your girlfriend is going through right now. I will keep her child in my prayers that a doctor will be able to help you soon. This sounds heartwrenching.
she has GOT to see another doctor. that is ridiculous. she should check out a pediatrician or GI doc at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach. a little ways from home but this is not something to ignore...really hope she gets it figured out!
Keep going to another doctor until you find out the problem. This is SERIOUS stuff. I personally would go to the www.tacanow.org site and look at the recommended gastro doctors there as they are use to dealing with the hard stuff and working on the problem, not wiping it under the table. Shame on these doctors for allowing this to go on - shaking my head in disgust.
Also, even though someone or something says he is not allergic to anything the first thing I would do is to remove ALL dairy, casein, soy from his diet. Very easy to replace it with almond, rice, goat, hemp milk products. This needs to be dealt with, now.

One of the less common causes of vomiting in a child is a Hiatal Hernia. A Hiatal Hernia is a condition where there is a prolapse of a portion of the stomach into the thoracic cavity. When this occurs, the top of the stomach slides through a weakened opening between the food tube and stomach. The symptoms of Hiatal hernia include regurgitation, vomiting, failure to thrive, intermittent colicky abdominal pain and GERD symptoms.
There's a multitude of reasons why a 5 year old child vomits. Some children have a hyperactive gag reflex. A gag reflex is the normal response that everyone has when food or water touches the back of their throat. Children gag when something touches the back of the throat in order to protect their airway and prevent them from choking or aspirating. In some children this reflex is so overactive that the smallest amount of food can touch the back of the throat and cause such a forceful gag that it causes the child to vomit.

If they don't see children there, I know they will recommend a good pediatric gastro. This kind of sounds like what my friend's son had when he was little which was a hiatal hernia. He had surgery and was 100% better.
There is also a slight chance this is an ear, nose, throat doc issue. I recommend Dr. Yanamadala in Torrance, he's very nice and will refer you to someone else if he feels it's not something he can treat and needs to be seen by another doc. I like his honesty and knowledge. His number is ###-###-####. My OB's daughter was vomiting at night all the time as a toddler, and it was her adenoids of all things. They were taken out and she was better.
