My 8 month old son was vomiting food and A LOT of mucus for every 15-30 minutes for 2 hours. Have any of your children ever had anything like this? I know that usually vomiting is something that should not be taken too seriously unless it persists or is accompanied by other more severe symptoms (which it isn't), but I can't ever remember vomiting up that much mucus myself, so I am unsure of what to do.
My son vomited once more after I asked this question. I waitedfor my husband to come home and we were going to go to the urgent care, however, his vomiting stopped and he was ready for bed. SInce it was now late, we decided to let him sleep and if he had thrown up one more time we would take hime in. Luckily, he made it through the night without any more trouble, and was even able to hold down a bottle of formula. In the morning, he was a little lathargic and not as hungry, but once he took his afternoon nap, he was back to his old self! I guess it was either a stomach bug or what he had for dinner.
Vomiting mucus (or having it come out the other end) CAN be a normal event...like someone mentioned earlier, babies can't blow their nose or "hack it up" in their throat properly, so it gets swallowed.
However, something may be causing excess mucus that needs to be evaluated. If he isn't feeling better and done throwing up by the morning, I would take him in. Hope he feels better soon!

And, what if he gets dehydrated? That is dangerous.
He needs to go to the ER.
Take a sample of his mucus or something, if you can.
This can be anything.
You need a proper DOCTOR diagnosis.
My DS did the exact same thing around 7 months old. How bizzare.
He had eaten a banana that day.
We called the ped. and she was like-that's nice, why are you bothering me on a Saturday night. :(
I would call and at least let them know.
It went away by bedtime and I didn't give him banana again for a long time.

I agree. Get him to at least an after hours care center if only to ensure that he isnt dehydrating. Too small to be messing around with this. In the meantime, try to get fluids down him by waiting about 30 min afer he vomits, and then starting with acouple of tbs of liquid, then gradually increasing to ensure tht he can hold it down.

Well thank goodness he isn't vomiting blood. That would be serious. The vomiting and expelling mucus that might be blocking his airways is good. Whether or not it is abnormal for so much to come out is what you should check with a doctor.
My daughter was vomiting mucus and it turned out to be RSV. She ended up in the hospital with bronchiolitis and pneumonia. I would get your baby checked to be sure it is nothing serious.
small babies and children do not how to handle congestion as we know how to blow our nose and cough things up they do not yet,so they just keep swallowing it and swallowing it until they have to let it come back up. does he have a cold or something that you know of? my son has allergies and if I do not keep him on his meds. he does this same thing. I have had loads of experience in him doing this,both with allergies and sickness. I do not remember every 15 to 30 minutes for 2 hours. but if he swallowed enough and is very congested that is possible. get him to the doctor if it goes and gets worse though.
My be he has a virus or food posion....have you been giving him milk?
