I just started giving my 2 .5 yr old the chewable; gummy bear type flinstone vitamins. What do you moms think of those vitamins? Do you use them? Would you reccommend another? I was giving her the liquid vitamis drops with flouride since she was about 12 mos but she ran out 3 months ago and i started giving her these now that she is older.

What can I do next?

I used YummiBears for awhile, but they were so expensive, and when my second child was old enough to start them, we went through a bottle so quickly! I switched to Lil Critters, which both kids love (gummies as well), and when this multi-vitamin bottle is done, I will try their DHA vitamins. The bottle came with a sample of the omega gummies which the kids loved as well. I don't think there's a difference between these and Flintstones!

Since you are in NJ, you should be getting vitamins prescribed by your pediatrician that contains (a non-toxic level!!) of flouride - NJ water is not flouridated like NY and other states. There is a chewable version that your dr. can prescribe. I also give my daughter Omega-3 supplements from Lil Critters since I personally think DNA / Omega-3 is very important, and my daughter doesn't eat nearly as much fish as I would like her to. You can find these at Target and at BJ's.

No, absolutely wouldn't use those. I gave them to my son for a long time before I realized how bad they are. He would be better off taking nothing.
Make sure company has published peer-reviewed research on the actual product.
I only use Shaklee. If you are interested, let me know.

Instead of giving her vitamin suplements, just give her a balanced diet.

I would never give a little kid vitamins that resemble candy, that's an overdose waiting to happen. My kids were good eaters so I didn't give them vitamins at all, other than the liquid ones when my first was an infant. Then I realized they really weren't needed. I didn't do flouride supplementation, just good oral hygiene and my kids (age 12 and 16) have never had a cavity (and we have well water, so no flouride in there)

My pediatrician told me no on the gummies because they are lower quality, more sugar, and too much like candy. Also, my dentist told me they get stuck in the teeth more and can cause cavities.

Not that I think flintstones are that good either, but they are what are easiest to find without doing gummies. I used to ordera nordic natural vitamin online, but my budget doesn't allow it now.

my daughter's been taking the gummy vites since she was 2...
she's now 4 1/2 and our pediatrician said it was fine because she wouldn't take the vitamins prescribed with the flouride.

I don't have all the answers but we just went to my daughters 2 year dentist appointment and he said no gummy vitamins and no fluoride! The gummys stick the teeth and can cause cavities and decay. If you are looking for something our health food store sells this great veggie and fruit vitamin powder that we mix with juice or water.
Dentist also said that fluoride is toxic in kids under 4. Unless you drink well water, most city water is fluoridated already so I'd skip the fluoride. (We actually filter it out of our water too because its not really that great for adults to drink either: http://www.holisticmed.com/fluoride/)

I have learned a lot about vitamins over the last three years. You are better off not giving your child any vitamins at all instead of most over the counter brands. They are full of plastics and other toxins! You would not imagine what is in some of the products you use. The manufacturers are literally poisioning the population and we wonder why there is cancer. The vitamins also do not break down and cannot get absorbed into your body.

As far as floride goes, it is a known toxin. Unfortunately when my kids (now 9, 8 and 6) were younger they had the rx from the pendiatrician which had the floride in them. I stopped using them 3 years ago. Once you ingest floride it is toxic to you.

My best suggestion is do some research and educate yourself so you can make the best decision for you and your family instead of listening to what the advertisers want you to know. I became very educated and use products - vitamins, household, and others, from a 50+ year natural nutrition company. I was sold and became a distributor. I have piece of mind about what we clean with, wash with, vitamins, sunscreen, and other personal products.

Whatever brand you choose, just educate yourself so you are not harming yourself or your child. I'm from Jersey too - exit 82.

Good luck.

Yes, those are fine. I use the chewable Non-gummy ones...I get the target brand of flintstone ones. I have a weird thing about gummies...I feel like they are going to stick to his teeth and rot them! Ha! But to answer your question, yes they are fine.

I could NOT get him to take any kind of liquid vitamins! he would gag and barf! Good job on doing them for so long!
