Visit with Casual Friends - What to Do?

We have hung out with a couple with which my husband went to high school. We just seemed to click after a reunion. We hadn't seen each other for a while as they had kids and we didn't.

Fast forward 5 years and my husband caught up with them again last year at another reunion. We invited them to come over for a weekend day in the summer, knowing we'd grill and hang out at the neighborhood pool with the kids. They were not able to make it until this coming Saturday. We're pleased to have them but at a loss of what to "do." The former set up would have made it easy to break the ice, but not sure here. We have some good toys for the kids and will still grill. It's 53 and sunny, so not super warm to be outside so much. I'd love to hear some suggestions.

A big thank you!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! We will be picking up a bocce ball game to play and make sure the bounce house we have (not too big) is in good working order, along with other available toys.

If you have any yard space, set up a horse shoe pit, or get a set of Bocce balls and play that. Unless their kids are under age 6, they should be able to play, too. And even though horseshoes is kind of an "old fashioned" game... when we've played it at church picnics it ALWAYS is fun.

And as for Bocce, as our pastor used to say: "It's the perfect sport. You can play without having to set your beer down."

Badmitton
Croquet
Cornhole (really fun game that you can buy at Target)
Horseshoes

All of the above can be played outside with coats! Invite them to come over around 3, eat dinner by 5 and have dessert/coffee by 6:30. If they are having fun, great and you can space it out more. If not, 3 hours and you're all done!

how about just invite them over, grill out, and just chat at the kitchen table before and after dinner? Maybe rent a movie that you think everyone as a family might enjoy? Chances are you'll be too busy catching up to watch it though. Have fun!!

How long are they there? Go to a museum together. Then come back home and serve yummy appetizers and hang out. Make a delicious dinner/grill. Play a game together like Apples to Apples or Blokus or cards. Make some margaritas! :)

Cornhole?! That means something waaaaayyyyy different to most people I know. I wouldn't suggest that as an activity. LOL.

Anyway....I agree with Krista...if you have some outdoor activities/games that can be played by both the kids and adults then break them out. We like washers and blongo ball. Otherwise, just grill and let the kids play while you make small talk.
