We had my daughter in the ER last night. (she is 6) She was/is having terrible belly pain with a fever. My husband and i were worried that it was appendicitis. The hospital thought it was intestines/bowel. They ran many tests...blood, urine, xray and ultrasound. She is still having intense pain on and off all day with a fever spike to 104. The hospital sent us home telling us it was a nasty virus.
I just want some reassurance...maybe it is just a bad virus? I don't want to over worry. I have 4 kids...i have never seen any of them go through this :( It is like labor....the pain comes in waves. One minute she is playing and the next she is in a ball. We are alternating tylenol and motrin like we were told.

get a second opinion just cause they are doctors doesnt mean they arent quacks. I have never heard of this either. go to a diffrent hospital for a second opnion.
If you're not comfortable with what the ER told you, call your pediatrician today. While it may be reassuring to hear what other moms have to say, they may not doctors, they have not examined your child or reviewed her test results and what they say - although well meaning - many not have anything to do with what your daughter has. You didn't mention any other symptoms - diarrhea, vomiting, etc - which could confirm or contradict what the ER told you. I am a doctor and would never try to diagnose your child's symptoms without having all the information I needed, including personally examining her. A 104 fever is something to worry about. I would recommend a tepid bath to reduce her fever until she can be seen by her pediatrician if the Motrin/Tylenol is not bringing her fever below 102. Take her to her pediatrician today. Hope she feels better soon.
A virus will definitely spike a fever. Is she up to date on her vaccines? Did they check for meningitis? Watch her for seizures too if her fever stays elevated and doen't some down. Doctors are human and make mistakes too. I definitely wouldn't be happy with that answer but that is me. The diagnostic tests seem good but I would watch her very carefully. If something seems amiss it probably is, trust your mother's intuition. In the meantime, get her on probiotics right away to get her digestive tract working again. Target sells one called Culturelle that is a flavorless powder mix you put in their drinks. It is expensive, $24/ box but one of the best. My pediatrician gives it to his kids. Good luck!
I've had a stomach flu like that, so I'd assume that is what it is. Just follow their "when to return" advice to the letter and I'd check in with your pediatrician too. Hope she's better soon-- it is so hard when they are sick.
I know of two people who had something similar to this -- one was a young child and the other an adult. Both had terrible intestinal/stomach pain and both ended up in the ER. Actually, my friend's little boy stayed in the hospital for two days because he was in such pain. They both had mesenteric adenopathy, which I believe was brought on by a virus. I only know the name because I had e-mailed my friend to ask what her son had after an adult friend had the same symptoms. (I still have the e-mail!)
Make sure to let your pediatrician know what is going on, and maybe get a second opinion from him/her if she doesn't get better in a couple days. I hope she's on the mend and will feel better soon.

There is a very nasty stomach virus that has been going around for the last 2 months and it sounds like your child got it. We had it in my household. It was horrible and terribly contagious so wash your hands as much as possible. We didn't feel better for about a week. My MIL got a form of it too but hers was milder. It was incredibly painful to go thru. Hope this helps reassure you.
There are plenty of bugs that hit the digestive tract. I have had intestinal viruses that were violent enough to double me over for minutes at a time. Eventually the cramps tend to result in diarrhea.
I'm glad you had her checked. Keep an eye on the symptoms – if they get worse, take her back. If she doesn't have bowel movements, take her back. If the fever gets worse or stays longer, take her back. But it could be a virus, and she'll probably be better in a day or two. Especially if she seems more or less normal between episodes.
Like others said, you didn't give a lot of info. Is she vomiting? Diarrhea? Any upper resp. symptoms? Is it only a fever and belly pain? No other symptoms? It is hard even for a Dr. to diagnose without seeing the child, so I doubt you will get much help, other than to say have her checked again. If she is vomiting/diarrhea, there are some nasty bugs going around right now. But if not, I would be more suspicious something else may be going on. I hope she is feeling better today.
Make sure they checked for a urinary tract infection...uti....my daughter had terrrible belly pain with this..and fever...she just layed on the couch and said she couldn't walk. Hope she feels better soon!!! M.
I'm not sure about your daughter and I hope she's on the mend soon! But my 2-1/2yo son and I had a stomach flu that caused horrendous stomach pain and it was the weirdest thing ever. It started with vomiting which actually left us feeling energetic, like a weight was lifted and we started to do extra things. But then we doubled over in pain from the cramps and when I wasn't doubled over, my husband and I could see what looked like a small elephent traveling thru my digestive system. Then we had uncontrollable diarrhea for about 6hours. Then it was gone.
Just about everyone we know has had this flu, some back in October, and some as of last weekend. Good luck!!!
