Has anyone flown with them before? I am trying to book a flight to see a friend and they were the cheapest. I'm just wondering why they are so cheap compared to jet blue or united? I love jet blue, but since moving farther from my friend, the cost is way too high now. We have flown delta once and first the lost my husbands luggage and it took 3 days for him to get it, and on the way back home, they lost ALL of our luggage including the car seats, so I will never fly with delta again. So, if you have flown with virgin america before, please let me know if you had a good or bad experience. Thank you!!

So What Happened?

thank you! I will for sure book with them. I will be flying from DC to Seattle and round trip total cost was only $300, so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't too good to be true and it wasn't a horrible company. Like you get what you pay for kind of thing. But, since all of your reviews are good, I think it's safe to say ok for them. Thank you!

I LOVE VIRGIN AMERICA. I had a great experience with them flying from Dallas to San Francisco. They did lose my carseat, but they gave me a loaner that was in amazing condition and they found and return my carseat to me the next day. It would of been that evening, but I didn't pick up the phone when I didn't recognize the number. They have tvs at every seat like jet blue, and you can actually order drinks and food from your seat and the flight attendants bring it right to you. This really cuts back on the flight attendants constantly walking up and down the aisles. The staff both on the ground and in the air were wonderful. They were really nice to my daughter and gave her extra snacks. They are always the first place I go when looking for flights.

Virgin America is FANTASTIC! I flew San Francisco to Washington, DC with them 5 times last year and San Francisco to Orlando once with my give year old (who also loved it)!

They have everything you love about JetBlue plus some. Seats are bigger, you get your OWN tv with Direct TV. I love, love, love, love Virgin. Meal and snack selection is pretty good and you order from your seat on the screen so they just bring it to you instead of wandering up and down the isle offering you stuff.

They are cheap because they have limited cities and routes... kind of like how Jet Blue started out.

I cannot complain about them AT ALL.

Only things to be aware of... checked luggage is expensive, and they will actually MEASURE carry-on bags AT THE GATE if your flight is full and make you check it right there.

I flew with them to San Francisco and it was a great flight. People on the flight were nice and we were on time. The difference with them was that you get a complimentary drink (you have to order it on back of seat), but if you want a snack or food you have to pay for it on their interactive screen on the back of the seat. Same for movies, but you can watch regular TV. They serve snacks and bevs the ENTIRE flight which blew my mind b/c they just kept bringing stuff to people the whole time. Those people work hard! Bring headphones so you don't have to pay for them, oh and make sure you try to carry on your luggage. It costs $25 (one way) to check your bag, but when I flew with them they asked people to check their bags at the gate free of charge because the flight was packed. I checked my bag at the gate and picked it up at the carousel with no lost luggage issues. LIke the person below said, you do have to get there early to check your bags, but if you have one carry on each and check them at the gate, when they ask, it worked out great for me. I really enjoyed the flight and thought the staff on the flight were really friendly.

I haven't but my daughter just flew on them from DC to San Francisco, the price was comparable to other airlines but the times were better and they were non-stop flights (so I didn't have to worry about my girl missing her connection). They made her check her duffle bag (even though I know for a fact it fits in overhead bins just fine) and it was an extra $25 EACH WAY.

So add $50 to that $300, and that's if you only have one bag per person to check.

Also they wouldn't check her bag at San Fran because she wasn't there 45 minutes ahead of time to check it ... she was 30 minutes before her flight (they got stuck in traffic) so she missed her flight and had to be put on stand by for the next flight (thankfully she got on that one). So make sure you're at the airport way way early.

I love Virgin America too. Jet Blue was my favorite until I discovered Virgin America.

With the Virgin America visa credit card, I have been earning free flights for me and my family to fly between San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington DC. (They go elsewhere too, there are no blackout dates and there's only a $2.50 booking fee per flight.) Service has always been fabulous. I do wish they flew to more places!

Go book your flight! :-)

I can't speak for Virgin America, but Virgin Atlantic was good and aren't they related?

They did offer us an air line car seat for our daughter that wasn't really available, but the actual flights were fine and they tried to make it up to us on the flights (extra room on one and extra snacks on another). They took our car seat at baggage check for free and the stroller at the gate for free. Oh, don't get stuck in a line with the trainee, but that was our fault for staying when it was moving so slow. Once the supervisor took over we were on our way.

If you are flying within the US, I've always had good luck with Southwest.
